  1. I don't think any one would argue with that Craig...I guess it depends how big the price gap is though!

Ignoring Ollie's car [in my list of ISF's on AT at the moment], as he's only just put it up for sale, the other two have been for sale for quite some time...the black one looks to be a good example [low miles, low number of owners, not sure about the SH, still in warranty I believe]. Is price the main reason it hasn't sold?

Obviously, just an opinion, but I think... must be the price. Early 2008 IS-F starts at £12-14k and that is ignoring some more tired examples on facebook going for £9k. Yes these cars have 30-40k miles less, but nevertheless they are out of warranty and early model year cars. If you ask me I would not pay extra £3-4k for the same car only because it is 60k miles and not 96k, mileage is not exactly a problem for Lexus as long as there is service history. Equally, not sure if that is still the case, but around summer time there were several 2010 cars at similar price ~17-18k, so why would one take 2008 model, when 2010 can be had for similar price? So again, the type of buyer who is going for 12 years old sports car with high mileage is likely to be a person who is trying to get it at cheap price and not exactly in position to pay premium just to knock down few miles and these cars are just too expensive.

Your opinion mirrors mine mate, though I think I'm bias as I want an ISF and have a maximum I'd spend on an early car. I base this on the figure I nearly bought an 08 car for 2 years ago [that had FSH, owned by a club member, under 50k miles etc]. Obviously I wouldn't expect to have to spend more on a similar car now. I know ISF's are rare but they still depreciate like all other cars [especially cars with V8's]!

  3. Seems to be a few ISF's on AutoTrader at the mo [that aren't super late ones, with super low miles and super big bucks]!

Anyone know anything about these ones? I think a few of them have been up for sale for quite a while. I wonder why they haven't sold?

The warranty is so cheap on these cars its hard to argue against having it, and if you do then it must be serviced by lexus. Hence why mine will stay with lexus. It does infuriate me slightly that on the more expensive services you are mainly paying for them to go over the car in more detail to try and find something to charge you to fix!! However a clean bill of health from such as service does give a level of confindence all is well.

I have used specialists on all my other cars but a combination of the lack of specialists and keeping the warranty will see lexus get my business for the forseeable.

Is that true though, that you must have your car serviced by Lexus if you take their warranty?

At the end of the day, if I was in the market for a used F car (which I might be when I finally get round to putting my Forester up for sale) and an owner pulled out a fat file of invoices for all the service/repair work carried out by a good indy, I’d be pretty confident the car had been looked after...more so than someone who just hands me a service book with Lexus stamps.

  5. I remember saying this when I was looking for an ISF last year but it’s a pity so so many get part exchanged back to dealers without at least trying the private market.

I totally understand why you guys do it, it’s so much less hassle, but when it takes what would be a well loved ISF out of my price range (due to a dealers mark-up), it is gutting!

Just though id add my bit as i was at Lexus Bham today and saw the red ISF. Not something i would buy, its has a front end spray job which is not bad, but the front bumper is not put back properly,  gaps all over and also over spray on the headlights (bottom). Give it 6months and the lacquer will start to peel off because it looks like who ever did the paint job did not take the parts off to paint the car, its as though they just masked it up.

Ive had two of these before and this car look tired compared to the ones i had with a lot more mileage on them compared to this. Personally i think its worth 15k.

Interesting. I wonder if that’s why it’s a few grand cheaper then the white one I highlighted at the start of this thread, even though it’s got similar miles?

They are reliable, but when they go wrong they can't cost a huge amount.

When my sat nav went, the repair bill to the warranty company was around £5K. A blown speaker was around £800. A DVD changer issue was around £2K. Brake caliper leak was around £1K.

There is a user here who had a gearbox problem and the repair bill was well over £10K.

If I didn't have warranty I would have probably had to live with some of these faults, or find used parts etc. Putting aside an equivalent amount of money wouldn't have covered the cost of these faults.

    £800 for a speaker and £2k for a DVD changer...WTF?!?

  8. Although I quit looking for an ISF [within budget] last year and bought a Forester STi instead, I do still keep my eye on the market as I'd still like to own an ISF one day.

Just spotted this one - https://usedcars.lexus.co.uk/en/used-lexus/Lexus/IS-F/IS-F-50-qxb2jan - seems a decent price, as it's from a Lexus dealer. Just wondering if it's a 'forum known' car? I noticed it's missing an exhaust trim. Why haven't they replaced it?!

There's also this one at another Midlands Lexus dealer - https://usedcars.lexus.co.uk/en/used-lexus/Lexus/IS-F/50-Very-Rare-Car-jjb2d8b - same[ish] ages and miles but an extra £2k....so is the red one priced low or the white one over-priced?

    Ta.

I've heard of a few engine failures with the VXR8's, be careful.

I think that would be pretty rare though. As per my Foz, I'd just need to find one that's be properly cared for etc. All for the future though...an ISF will remain top of the list.

Saying that, if bloody petrol keeps going up like it is, I'll have to replace my 25mpg car for something more boring. I paid over 1.40 for the first time ever the other day 😞

I really don't think sellers push the emphasis on warranty enough. Most on here know the cars are bullet proof, but I imagine most potential buyers don't know this. Many will have looked at the main contenders, C63 and M3 etc, read about the problems on the forums, and been put off. They may then assume the F range is the same.

I chose my ISF in June after much research here and elsewhere. I realised I could buy a very high performance car, and have a warranty until it was 12 years old!

Purchased from Lexus Coventry at 7 years old, it came with the usual 12 months warranty. At the same time I also signed up for the 2 for 1 extended warranty at £66 x 12 months. Total 3 years. My intention is to keep the car for 2 years. I can then try to sell privately with the balance of the warranty being transferrable. If I keep it, I can renew the warranty before it's 10 years old and within mileage limit, hopefully for another 2 years.

I hope my assumptions are correct. Shoot me down if not!!

The warranty is what attracted me to the ISF [besides the V8]. V8 M3's are easily into the teens now but I'd be more worried about something going pop [and the warranties are so much more expensive]...saying that, my current car is a Forester STi with the not so reliable 2.5 and a potential £5k+ bill if it gives up!!

I saw a VXR8 the other day. Don’t want to put you off one, but age (IMHO) is not being kind to them. The ISF on the other hand - damn, ISFs still looks fresh. Quite often I’ll be in convoy with an ISF and I always admire its lines.

I’ve SO got a soft spot for ISFs ❤️

I like the look of the big Vauxhall...though it's the earlier ones I like, they got uglier/fussier later on [not that I'd have the budget for a newer one].

I think the ISF is a better looking car but the VXR8 is more purposeful.

  12. I’ve kind of kept my eye on the ISF market as I’d still like one in the future.

The ones for sale always seem to be later cars with super low miles and big prices, or cars with more miles than I’d like in the 14-15k bracket. Very rarely do I see cars in the middle...which is where I’d be!

Hopefully that’ll change in the future when I’d ready to sell the Fozzy STi.

I have added added the Vauxhall VXR8 and Jag XFR to my list of potential V8’s (if they’ll fit in my single garage)!

Such a shame 40 odd thousand miles a couple of owners simply failed to sell at Lexus Cheltenham for six months, I understand this one is going through at the same time as mine.......
