  1. These do seem to break. Mine cracked the other week and I've noticed it on other LSs.
  2. All sorts of reasons. I wanted to take my plate off my Saab and put it on the Subaru. In theory I should have been able to take the plate off online and pass the retention certificate on to the dealer for the Scooby Doo. As it was DVLA said no to doing it online for reasons I still don't understand and I had to do it by post. I'd had the Subaru a fortnight before the docs came through. As far as online plate makers are concerned I've used Plates For Cars many times. And their details are barely noticeable in the bottom right corner.
  3. Rock Auto is popular on here. I know members have used them with no complaints. In fact I was only chatting to @steve2006 about them the other day. Regarding your parts, I'm not sure the RA alternators and PAS kits are genuine which may explain your problem with the part numbers. Personally I'd be wary of buying remanufactured from the US and when I needed an alternator and PAS pump for my '97 I sourced them from Euro Car Parts and eBay respectively. Give me shout if you need more details.
  4. Not sure if you've had any luck yet but I think it's just a case of keeping an eye on eBay. I was just in the right place at the right time and managed to get both off @steve2006. Like you I wanted both items for "completeness". Unfortunately I think the battery jackets get thrown away because they warp out of shape due to heat from the engine. Mine's warped but just fits when it's secured in place.
  5. Exactly this. And I always use https://www.tempcover.com/ when I go to collect a new to me car and need insurance for a day or two.
  6. That's excellent. I'm going to use that next time I'm at Bicester Scramble.
  7. A similar problem affects the V70. As you say, only Lexus/Toyota would engineer a solution like this.
  8. Don't believe the hype. Or more accurately, don't believe the 15 minute reviews in the motoring press or online. I really can't stress this enough. I've owned or driven quite a few CVT gearbox cars and yes you do have to adjust your driving style a little but that muscle memory from a regular gearbox quickly passes. I'm currently in a brand new Subaru Outback, reminds me very much of my old RX 400h and I'm extremely happy with how it will hustle along when you want it to.
  9. I watched a few more of these "Fails" vids last night. It really is astonishing that some people believe their vehicles will a) make it or b) still function after driving through that depth of water. One of them includes a Mercedes Sprinter van that is actually floating. Keeps the locals entertained I suppose. And further to my post above, we did get the Scooby and we did have fun crossing back and forth over the ford at Tissington! But the water was probably no more than a foot deep. Any more than that and I'd worry about the plugs on the boxer engine. I even stopped halfway and let the stop/start kick in just to scare the kids
  10. Really no offence to you personally Vlad but I do see on here new members posting up about their 220 or 200ds and the first thing they get are responses regarding issues owners have had and how they should have bought a 250. Some owners have had issues, not all. And if I'd spent my hard earned on a motor I fancied and when I joined the owners forum all I got was "you've bought the wrong one" I'm pretty sure I wouldn't come back. Again, nothing personal. This occurred to me the other day with another thread, this one just gave me a nudge.
  11. I'm *almost* wanting bird poop on my car now just so I can try it.
  12. A hairdryer won't do any damage.
  13. Agreed. I certainly wouldn't be applying T Cut to anything.
  14. That's an interesting one. Never come across that before. I'll try that next time!
  15. That sounds more like it. Still a bit rich but at least they're genuine. I had no problem getting hold of them from Lexus Sheffield.
  16. Have you looked in the handbook. At the risk of sounding like someone else on here...
  17. Are you sure that £126 isn't for the entire assembly? I'm sure I paid considerably less than that for genuine Lexus when I got the GS and then the LS. Enormously satisfying when the motor takes the cable off you
  18. I'll double check when I get back in mine but I'm pretty sure the NF button is a version of RDS. I know that if it's on then I don't lose the station. And @steve2006 is correct. The frequency changers do work. I had one attached to the JDM head unit in my IS 300. And good to see you Rob. I'm over in Sheffield so I'll keep an eye out for your Celsior
  19. Yep. Definitely no code unless a previous owner has chosen to add one. It's an optional thing in the unit's menu.
  20. And I think I'm correct in saying that as an import it stays at around £280 regardless of year when an awful lot of similar fruity stuff jump to £550+ post March '06.
  21. I have a replica of a period tax disc that would have been displayed on my LS 400 when it was first registered in January 1997. It caught my eye again today and I was interested to know the % increase in VED for first registrations between then and now. Assuming a n/a V8 would be in the highest band. VED for first registration 1997 £145 VED for first registration 2021 £2245 An increase of 1448% Another assumption would be that a "new" LS 400 now would be priced at over £40k and subject to the additional £335 rate on top of the £155 from the second year on. So how about VED cost over the first 3 years ownership from 1997 (ignoring small increases year on year) and 2021? VED cost for 3 years 1997 on £435 VED cost for 3 years 2021 on £3225 An increase of 641% Not really going anywhere with this, just thought it was interesting. And eyeopening.
  22. Quite the rabbit hole to disappear down I buy chrome or metal cassettes off the bay and record onto them for use in my LS 400.
  23. Linas is more knowledgeable in this area but I believe "Sold as seen" from a trader is a big no-no. Where in Yorkshire are you?
  24. Sounds obvious and apologies if you've tried it but check the media volume level on your phone. Start it playing, up the volume on your phone and it should remember the setting.
