  1. The main difference between the main dealer and independent in my experience is 100+ point inspection they do as part of the preparation. This involves them changing tyres, brakes etc if they fall below a minimum level which an independent would try and avoid or replace with cheap parts.

I once viewed a BMW pre multi point inspection and agreed to buy it. The dealer rang me later to say after inspection it was going to need 4 new tyres, brakes all around, and a new splitter and it was no longer viable for them to sell under their approved used scheme. It went through auction and a week later turned up at a local garage being sold with the same tyres and brakes BMW had rejected and a cheap repair on the splitter.

  2. Looks a good price to me, these cars dont sell quickly unless you get lucky as they are quite niche. If you need a quick sale maybe try motorway.co.uk or look to see if any local car dealer will list it for you for a commission? Some people are put off private sales. Otherwise I'd continue to enjoy it whilst you still can and it will sell as it looks a good car for the money.

    Hi there,

    Link doesn't work.

Yeah ive read all sorts online you live in Lancashire as do I any-chance we could compare engine tones? 🙂

Are the manifolds made of cast Iron or Stainless steel?

    Thanks

Pah I just used the standard attachment feature on a post 🤷‍♂️

    Try this one instead https://we.tl/t-ChvyUXDqWT

If you want to come and compare noises thats fine by me.

If you need to have a manifold fabricated, these fellas are worth a call http://www.pipewerxcars.com/

  4. I have used this garage a lot over the last 10 years with various cars and cant recommend him enough.

    https://grinspeed.co.uk/

He is an ex WRC mechanic and also worked for a jap specialist before going solo. Just follow them on facebook to get an idea of the standard of their work.

My ISF has been a couple of times but this was to fit an exhaust and a fast road setup, I had warranty until recently so was still having the car serviced at Lexus to retain that, but they will be looking after my car for everything going forward.

I was eying up several ISF's over the first lock down and distinctly remember a black late spec one (central rev counter) with just over 100k being offerred for £17k it took several months to sell, pre-facelifts were around the 13k mark even less - prices are strong however the next month or so will dictate are buyers paying for the cars or not as cars at the bottom end of the market have shifted. E92/E90 M3 aren't selling either alot of stock dealers are holding atm. Personally I think the prices will come down a little but not low as pre-lockdown levels. as others have said the road tax and fuel pay a huge part esp if were heading to the not so magical £2 a litre.

I recently bought a ISF and its not had the Radiator done, I shall be getting it done as a preventive measure, during the mot I did ask and had a look myself and the pipes looks like they had oxidation but not corroded away - either way its getting done! I do have a receipt for the waterpump which is great.

Also going to get the arms, sills and underside wire wheeled and clear coated to prevent rust, luckily its quite clean but having owed Japanese cars most of mylife they are known to be rot bags!

You cant visually inspect as the corrosion happens internally to the radiator, there's a theory about what's been used to top up the radiator being the culprit. Just dont want you thinking you are safe and then facing a large bill.

  6. Hi,

I am in the area and would be happy to take you for a blast some time.

Mine is a late prefacelift, stock bar exhaust with a fast road geo setup so would give you a good benchmark on suspension and LSD.

I've had it nearly 4 years and due to growing family (2nd child plus dog) and more regular winter duties I am considering a B8 RS4, plus I always wanted one, so would be interested in your opinion on that. I didn't really get the impression they were money pits! Though I am not expecting Lexus levels of reliability. Then every so often I drive the F and think why would I ever get rid!

445/7 bhp is a very healthy, if not overly optimistic reading. On a dyno rear wheel bhp is being measured whereas the 471bhp quoted by the manufacturer is measured at the crank. A lot of energy is lost in the transmission (through friction/waste heat) so rear wheel bhp is always substantially less. Even chain driven motor cycles lose a surprising amount of bhp at the rear wheel known as rear wheel horsepower (RWHP) - a chain is very efficient compared to the gearbox, differential and a pair of wheels with wider tyres on a car, eg. a 165 bhp bike would typically have 135 to 140 rwhp…the loss through a car transmission is greater.

My GSF came with a dyno chart from a session the previous owner had done, and it showed 464 bhp. Realising this was overly optimistic (or power had been raised above stock) I searched forums for GSF and RCF results and cars which were stock came out at no more than around 413 rwhp and quite a few were a tad under 400.

It also became very evident that dyno results vary widely from one to another, so comparisons can’t be made unless carried out on the same machine.

In a nutshell 445 rwhp does not suggest your car is down on power.

Most RR calculate transmission loss to provide a crank bhp, I would be very surprised if the number he was quoting was rwhp.

  8. Given the warranty is now included with the servicing, personally I see even less reason to buy from a Lexus dealer than ever before with their inflated prices.

I'm all for F car values increasing, but I cant believe someone has paid that sort of money for that car. It would be lunacy and show a complete lack of knowledge of the price point of what they were buying. Unless some money no object person happened upon it and fancied. I wont be surprised if it surfaces again.

  9. Given fuel prices are criminal at the moment I respect any eco warrior activities.

This week I am doing the school and nursery runs in the F as the wife is away in the family car. 5 mile round trip 3 miles a day on a cold engine with a bit of traffic. 19mpg and 42 miles from £20!

If it keeps going up a spirited drive might get close to £1 a mile!!

Edit: just did some quick maths and using super unleaded 6 mpg would be over £1 a mile
