  1. I Have the same issue on our Mk4. If I "help" the column to move it will adjust. Such a shame that something so simple should cause problems. It would be great if there were a better quality drive gear available. Anyone know a friendly engineer who could knock us up a few?
  2. Hi evryone. We have an intermittent check engine warning light coming on lately. I suspect it may be old fuel as the car hasn't had much use for the last few months. I topped up with fresh fuel a day ago but haven't had a chance to put any mileage on the car yet. I would like to have a look at any codes in the system so would be interested to know if anyone has had experience of an "inexpensive" ODBII scannerplease? Thanks. .
  3. I've been looking out for a replacement upper column for our 2000 LS400 for a while as I thought that ours had suffered the failure of the adjustment motors. Today I was moving the car so I could blow all the leaves away and, for some reason decided to try the switch and give the wheel a little manual help at the same time. Well, it moved through the whole of the range of adjustment. In and out has been lacking for a couple of years now. Up and down is a little notchy but works,. I'm now wondering if the column just needs some lubrication. Has anyone else had this issue and, if so, where would you do the lubricating? I would be grateful for any assistance with this please. Thanks.
  4. This is a great video. And a great car too. Check out Jay Leno's other stuff, it's all interesting. Thing with a DS though, love the idea, don't have enough money (or patience now) to actually run one. I've had three Citroëns iin the past and they were all full of character but devoid of reliability. It would seem that modern models are not dissimilar. Now, if Toyota were to build a replica. . . That would be a car to own.
  5. Well, another day and another message. Further to my problem with the sat nav, it now works. I took my life in my hands and removed the box from the car, took the lid off and gave the lens a clean with a cotton bud, put it back together and back in the car and it's working well now. Don't know how long this will be the case but, at least the clok is right now!!! Thanks to all who reasd the last post. (sic)
  6. Hi folks. I haven't been around for a while, mainly as I've been stupidly busy and all's been well with the car. And here comes the "but". Went to adjust the clock today and the menu won't come up as the sat nav cd unit in the boot has been playing up for a while and now seems to be completely shot. I just keep getting a message to check the disk. I've tried the old disk and the one we bought about a year ago and still get the same problem. Tried it without the disc, with the unit unplugged and that stopped everyting connected with the audio/climate doing anything at all. I suppose I need another cd unit in the boot? Anyone got one or know of one that's for sale please? Oh, it's a 2000 LS400 MkIV. Alternatively, is there a way of getting all the other bits to work without the unit at all? I'm not that bothered about the sat nav as we have a tomtom which is far more up to date anyway.
  7. Hi everyone I hope I am not repeating an old question but does anyone know of an independant Lexus specialist near March in Cambridgeshire, or at least witnin a reasonable distance. It is getting a bit silly trying to keep up with dealer prices now and the service isn't as good as it was. I would be grateful for any help anyone can offer. Thanks
  8. Hi Arnout It would be almost impossible to upgrade to a DVD system, they are completey different to the CD based units. It would also cost a huge amount. Probably better to buy an LS430 with it already fitted. We upgraded our CD a few months ago, not cheap but it has made a great difference to the maps (obviously) and to the quality of the speech commands. they are now faster and more accurate. I think that it was worth the cost but then we intend to keep the car for a few more years yet.
  9. Welcome. As GoldfingerLS says, it is a CD unit. It wouldn't work and certainly wouldn't give voice instructions if there was no disk. The window might just need some silicone spray on the rubbers, ours does this sometimes and spraying some silicone lubrcant on the rubber runners works every time. Hope you enjoy the car as much as we do.
  10. Hi Thanks for the info have booked into Roys inc. courtesy car - quoted less than half price than Lexus Cambridge saving over £500.00 will give an update after the deed is none How much were you quoted at Lexus Cambridge? We've just had ours done on a 2000 Mkiv at Ipswich for 380.00
  11. Well, here's an update about the radio. Tried lots of things to get it working but to no avail. So, bit the bullet and went to Lexus Ipswich. They took the whole screen unit out and wanted to send it away to a so called approved engineer. I sugessted that maybe it would be better to just send the radio/cassette unit as this was obviously detachable from the rest. They agreed, so at least we get the air con operating on auto. Nothing else works though (very useful). Two and a half weeks later we get a call from Ipswich saying that the Lexus approved engineer can't do anything with the unit as they don't have the Pioneer accessory required, whatever that means. Why haven't they got the bits they need to fix a 6 year old radio? I'm not happy! So, the radio is badged Toyota on the back, Lexus on the front, and turns out to be made by Pioneer. It is only 6 years old and the "approved" engineer can't do anything with it? Gavin at Ipswich did say that he was also surprised and would talk to Lexus to see if they can help. We wait with baited breath. Maybe the change to a new GS will be reconsidered, we mght visit Lancaster Garages and look at an E class, Maybe? I'll let you know what happens after the next call from Gavin. P.S. We went to the Open Road day last week and drove the GS430 and 450h. Both amazing cars. If my wife likes a car it must be quite something. Can't say which was best really, after al,l we only drove them for about 20 mins each. We might go and try a longer drive dependant on what happens about the radio.
  12. Thanks, I'll try before I have to take it to Lexus. Our local car audio place say they can't do anything with it so anything is worth a try.
  13. We got an invite to the Bury St Edmonds event. We will definatley be going Went 2 Years ago and had a great time playing with all the cars. Absolutely no hard (or soft) sell. All the staff are very good and just enccourage you to have a good day.
  14. :o Help please. Our first problem with the 2000 LS 400! Got in today to go shopping, started up, Radio goes on and off very quickly and aerial goes up and down. Whatever button we pressed, nothing happened and could not adjust the volume, it was very loud. Eventually took out the CD carrier and it swirched off. I don't know if the removal of the CD carrier had any effect or it had just given up by then. Evrthing else works OK through the touch screen, just no music. I've checked the fuse for the radio and the connections to the aerial which are all fine. Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved. Oh, by the way, now it won't run on again, the screen says Audio Off. Ta chaps.
