  1. Hi Guys, No getting away from the fact that it is a thirsty car... I get approx. 300 miles on a tank (60L) and that is all urban/city driving. If I do a long trip & blitz the motorway, I'll get closer to 400 miles. A BM would be more economical for sure. The car is lovely though, had it from new and in its 10th year - seen no trouble (apart from a battery and windscreen washer pump). So think of in another way - at the end of the day, consider the only ongoing outlay for running the car, in addition to service, MOT, Ins & TAX, is fuel. Reliability is priceless, eh!
  2. Lexus just quoted me £140 for an alignment. Tony - I'll be in touch mate... :winky:
  3. I've just taken mine into Lexus with some heavy corrosion on one of the front alloys - after only 18 months & 12k from new! Lexus have just agreed to replace all 5, even though the spare has never been used. I assumed maybe they were going to replace all because they changed manufacturer, slightly different pattern, etc. but perhaps not after reading these posts Slightly better customer service experience though...
  4. I just had a similar experience with Lexus Woodford (less the ransom!). The missus smacked the nearside door mirror and went straight to the dealer for a quote. Before she knew it they had booked it in for this morning for a full unit replacement, at the nice sum of £329! When I got home last night, took a look: fold in works left/right/up/down all work – absolutely no mechanical problems, all it needs is a mirror and the colour-coded mounting, which was cracked. So, took it to them this morning, low and behold only the mirror and moulding is required, price now: £120 (still high in my opinion, but better that £300+). Like most businesses, they will always try to fleece you (1) If they think you don’t know any better, or (2) If you have no option. Then there’s the ‘Prestige Added Tax’…
  5. Really sorry to hear about what happened Scarface. What a nightmare... can't agree more with what others have said. There's some crazy people out there. I only live a few miles around the A406 from Beckton! Things like this extract the whole joy out of driving. Now it's a matter of constantly checking who's around wherever you park, any time of day! I guess modern day alarm systems are too good, the criminals have to get hold of the keys to take the car... Time to look into some additional security... Speedy recovery mate, GG
  6. When the IS200 D comes out, I'll be very interested! The one major issue I have with the petrol engine is the poor MPG. If I can get the style & equipment of the IS, plus better performance AND improved economy, I'm there...
  7. Sorry to hear that Kazdul... I went to Gatwick Airport over the weekend to pick up my Dad, and boy, are those spaces tiny! Plus it's always packed, so you basically have to park wherever you find a space. No option but to 'park & pray'...
  8. Crisis over guys... it was indeed the height adjustment that needed to be lowered. I think the missus may have set it high when she was driving it (poor excuse, I know) . At the lowest setting, I have more clearance form the headliner, although it's still not more than a couple of inches - must be a combination of the sunroof lowering the roof and my longer upper-body?
  9. ... but, what's the reason for selling so quickly guys?
  10. I'll try adjusting down tonight, that could do the trick... Cheers, G
  11. The seat is all the way back. I guess I could try reclining a bit more (summer-cruising style!)...
  12. Hi All, 2 weeks into driving my IS200 SE, picked it up 2 weeks ago today. Here are my initial observations: The free-revving engine is making it very difficult to keep the revs down while running in for the first 1,000 miles. Scraped an alloy already! Don’t even remember kerbing it… Headroom, I didn’t notice during the test drives, but there’s only about ¼ inch gap between my head and the corner of the headliner (where the handle is). Makes for a sore head when looking around to pull out or reverse (and I’m only 5’11’’)… Done about 280 miles and due for a fill up. I was expecting better mileage on a tank, but still running in, plus I’ve been doing mainly short city journeys - so I’ll reserve judgement! Overall very happy that I chose the Lex. It’s pretty unique on the road and turns heads, even though it’s standard (plus an understated body kit). The other motors I had considered (you can probably guess which) are all very common on the road, with less than half of the standard equipment. Looking forward to moving into 4-figure mileage and giving it some right foot! Cheers, Gary
  13. Hi All, Gary, 33, from Harrow, North West London, but now living in North East London. Work in telecomms as a engineering consultant for a US telecomms firm called Level 3. Married to Mel for 8 years, with a 4 year old princess (& part-time little madam) called Joni. Picked up my new (54) Plat Ice IS200 SE last week, and very pleased so far :D Factory body kit and parking sensors in addition to the overflow of standard features!
  14. The plot thickens! Several different opinions here. I get the Octane bit. Thanks for all your comments guys. I guess Shell Optimax and BP Ultimate are the LOC's jungle-juice of choice, however, the odd supermarket tipple isn't going to do too much damage to the straight-six or the MPG. Anything else and it just starts to get religous... G p.s. nice one Shaz, I never seem to build any points of of Nectar, and Sainsburys is my main monthly shop (dunno how you did 25k Lexus Jim), I may have to pay Tesco a visit...
  15. In 2003 Tesco's profits were up at £1.3 Billion for the year, nice. Shell, on the other hand pulled in £2.4 Billion in the first 3 months of 2003!! Even nicer. But as I'm not a Shell shareholder, I'd rather not contribute to lining their pockets... unless it's for the good of my motor... I like what Wosket says, my Nectar card is itching for some points. :winky: Now, if "Sainsburys is Shell" - it' can't be equivalent to "piddling in the tank", as Rodders says... :duh: I'm confused... Clear as mud, eh? Apparantly it's all about the additives, right?
