  1. Because they're very corroded - in order to replace them you would have to disconnect them from the cooler, if that couldn't be done cleanly you wouldn't be able to get the new ones attached, that's my guess anyway..?
  2. Just had my '99 SE Auto serviced, the mechanic reported that the oil pipes that go to the oil cooler are very corroded, and that in his opinion it wil probably need a new oil cooler when the work is done as it would be impossible to get the pipes off due to the corrosion. Has anyone else experienced this?
  3. I'll be on the phone to Lexus Hedge End tomorrow then, thanks very much!
  4. Thanks for the info, I had visions of the price being £30-40 or even more through a main dealer..
  5. During the squalls last Friday my IS200 was hit by a falling wheelie bin which smashed the lens on one of the side repeaters, does anyone have a standard one knocking around (after fitting smoked perhaps?), that I can buy off them? If not is it a common/shared part with another make (e.g. Toyota)? I've tried the online scrappie search sites but no joy.
  6. Anyone lost any mirrors recently, overnight perhaps??? :)
  7. Thanks for all your help guys, appreciate it. I'm feeling more confident already... :duh:
  8. Brilliant, thanks. I don't suppose there's any similar guides for the discs, which is the part that worries me more to be honest..? Just remove old discs then put new discs on :D Are they just a push fit then, not attached to the hubs with strange oriental nuts or anything? :D
  9. I've got a full set of Mintex discs & pads coming this week (£240 inc vat and delivered from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/E-BLADES-AND-BRAKES) and I intend fitting them myself. Are there any online guides to doing this or can anyone advise whether there anything in particular to watch out for? For example torque settings or anything extra I am going to need to buy before I start, or anything just out of the ordinary? B) Cheers Front pads Rear pads Brilliant, thanks. I don't suppose there's any similar guides for the discs, which is the part that worries me more to be honest..?

  11. Lexus Southampton charged me £551 inc vat for 100,000 service with cambelt a few weeks ago, didn't think that was too bad esp as they gave me an RX300 demonstrator as a courtesy car.. only problem was they found that the water pump was leaking so final bill was £695 inc vat, plus discs front & rear need replacing soon, oh and so will the the rear tyres..
  12. I have a 99V IS200 SE Navigator Auto which is just approaching 100k with FSH. So far in the year I have had it I have had 2 problems, one was the well-known err3 on the cd player (currently being mended on 3rd party warranty) the other was a steering alignment problem, probably caused by a pothole, which kn*ckered 2 front tyres very quickly (a whole 1 degree out on the driver's side front). Apart from that the car has been faultless. I am the 3rd owner, the first was a company, hence the mileage. Question is, which of the major/expensive components tends to fail or need replacing first as the mileage increases on an IS200? There must be some very high milers out there, what are the experiences of their owners? I am keen to know as I want to keep this one on the road for several more years without incurring massive bills, it was bought because of the Lexus reputation for strength and reliability, has this been borne out in practice?
  13. Last week Lexus Southampton quoted me £551 all inclusive for the 100k service & belt change on my IS200, seems a good price although I'm still gonna check with my local Toyota dealer & independents before I bite the bullet...
  14. <brushes imaginary snow from shoulders>. Well, after much jiggling and wiggling and eject-pressing... nothing. Just the gentle whine of a small electric motor to accompany my curses and thumps and wiggles and jiggles. Anyone else got any bright ideas, short of handing over the car to Lexus in payment for them fixing it? It's a V reg 1999 so well & truly out of warranty I'm afraid.. PS - tried the fuse trick as well, no joy
  15. Me too, got the err3 message and locked-up symptoms today after playing up for a while, also out of warranty. I'm going outside, I may be gone for some time...
