  1. First reviews mixed, as is usual with car mages that are effectively owned by BMW, Ford and MB. They slated the first two IS models. Real experiences of real lexux drivers wanted please. Many members will lurk here seeking info on whether the extra car is worth the extra investment, as trade in on MK 2 is poor. Are they faster. Are they more economical. What toys area missing. Any new toys. Deler discounting. Guarantee and warranty? Is it really worse than the awful BME 30O ED. why we cannot have US 350 and or AWD.
  2. Good point re: Advance, in fact, having had one for 4 days and noting the low RPM at the UK speed limit, this is what prompted me to see if my own older IS 250 could be more economical. I changed gears at the same time as the advance did (changing at or slightly below 1.5 k rpm. I also filled the tank with Super 100 (RON 95, 98 and 100 available here). Yesterday, on the same tank, I drove 40km in city (non motorway) with speed limits of 60 to 80 kph (40 to approx 50mph) so the tank average dropped to 48.2, still very good. However, I did more impressive tests last week. On a single run of 1260km, which I did at the weekend, the tank averages were 40.1 mpg (needed to fill 3 times) and drove this at the speed limits which for this trip were 130kph for most of it (80mph) but all motorway. Having covered the best part of 5000km in recent weeks, I can still say that this 6 year old car delivered flawlessly, as usual, which is why it is called a Lexus.
  3. This evening I filled the car and drove it 100 km (60 miles) on motorway and 8km in city. Driving using cruise control at Number 2 (speeds of 55 to 60mph) generated a tank average of 54mpg, and at the end of the run, the combined was 50.5mpg. These numbs exceed the Lexus recommended. It's a 250 sport mm 2006. When the RPM is at 2, the car is doing 50mpg, sometimes a little more. A few weeks ago I test drove the new IS250 Advance, which was very smooth. I noted that whe. The rpm was at a value of 2, the speed was 70 to 75mph, so I assume it too will beat the 50mpg barrier, but driving a little faster. With Govt threatening Moore and more fuel duties, maybe we should compare notes on driving styles and optimum speed/tach settings to extract maximum mpg from our is250s. Mine is a manual.
  4. I would appreciate if anyone can tell me if there is an easy way to remove the DVD disc for sat nav, so I can check the serial no. with a view to updating it? I have seen posts where members are taking the whole multimedia system including screen out for various reasons, but this is beyond my simple DIY skills, thank you in advance
  5. Sorry, what I meant was I think Toyota will put an inferior petrol engine into the new IS hybrid, most lovely a 4 pot. Lexus are playing a long game, like Mercedes of old. Build the brand by delivering a bulletproof car that will have enduring reliability and appeal. They have succeeded. BMW used to represent so-called prestige, but they are as common as the Mondeo. In the old days, prestige meant reliability and future proof. BMW would like to see the Lexus experiment to fail in Europe, even if that means gaining just a few thousand new customers. Gordon Brown and company thrashed Lexus, market wise, With savage motoring taxes and stealth charges. Remember the days when diesel was much cheaper than petrol? The Govt conned the UK into a diesel frenzy, and now reap the rewards with higher diesel prices etc...
  6. I drove my IS250 (06) from Vienna to Liverpool last week, almost non stop, 1200 miles, with a service due and new tyres also due. As always, it got me here -a solid stable quiet comfortable ride, with no signs of grunt or groan, and with tank averages of 43 miles per gallon, on 230 to 140 Kph, and up to 180 kmh in places (108 mph) where allowed. Solid as a rock. This a manual, not auto. In years of ownership, the spare wheel he's never been used. I passed so many BMW, French and some Italian and Merc cars on the sides of the autobahns. What Car are industry lobbyists. They promote Landrover, BMW, vw and Audi. They make a whole splash about new BMW and Jaguar XF, and a few years later we see that the XF has an appalling reliability record, and BMWs not too far behind with techies who do not care. They hate us. We hate them (the way they drive) and that is the way it always was, what car reviews seem to be paid adverts written by their companies, and not objective real world tests.
  7. The current new IS Advance has nice LEDs which look similar to those on the new GS and refreshed RX. It is 27k though, and I drove one for a few days, felt and sounded smoother than my 06 IS 250. I really hope that they do not wreck the new IS with the same suspect set up as the new GS. A 4 pot engine from the Toyota Avensis mated with Prius battery pack will rob this car of its lure, this is most likely what they will do to the new IS. I saw the new BMW 3 seres 320d sport the other day - they are gunning for Lexus customers, as there are many design and feature cues from the current IS. I hope Lexus takes this into account. There is not a lot to fix in the current IS, just needs LEDs, more power, more fuel economy and fewer rattles , and a good deal for current Lexus owners. At present, Lexus seem to offer less for their own cars as trade in as do BMW and others....!
  8. The diesels did not mate with the rest of the car. They were simply transplanted from the Avensis range for which they were designed. Lexus should have sought a 3 litre diesel from wag or BMW......imagine the is Lexus IS 335 I, a global car. BMW reliability I,proved by association with Lexus, and the cars assembled and badger as the Lexus is350 td
  9. Dear Normski Thanks for the question on the 05 satnav, i have the same issue (same car also). However the 05 system is OK in Europe, but does not cover Slovakia, Czech Rep, Slovenia, Poland etc.. It is also missing new roads incl motirways built since 05, but there are not many of those. Holland is the country where 05 sat nav is most lackng, as there are lots of new motirways there. There is no post code entry. ML system is terrific, sound, camera etc have all worked perfectly. However in the past week my CD changer delivered the "cd error" message- it cannot load, eject or play discs. I am searching the forum for a fix to this. On the question of price, this is a good one. On one hand, the dealer is entitled to a profit to cover the cost of the 12 month guarantee, plus a contribution to the costs of the dealership itself. On the other hand, the gap between trade in prices offered and what the car is sold for is closer to 4000 to 5000 than 1500. I think 8.5k is a decent cash price for your car, maybe up to 9k if it is just serviced and needs no more attention for a while. I just pulled out of a purchase of a new IS250 Advance, because finance conditions were too strict (not allowed to use outside of UK for more than 2 weeks, something neither I or dealer were aware of). Though the new IS250 Advance is superb, smooth, seems more powerful than the 06 car, i am not disappointed to jump back into my IS 250 06 sport, which looks as new as it was bought, and has been bulletproof, reliability wise. I wish you well in your quest......
  10. Lexus seems to work on threes and fours. Three is the profit they would like on your part ex. This is why their offer is low. Four is the profit on the new one. They will say that they incur significant costs in turning the part ex into something they can guarantee to the next buyer. Is the car you are trading worth more than the car you are buying, or do all these numbers refer to the same car. Are u buying new.
  11. Agree. The current minor fix with chrome and LEDs is good enough. As the next Lex will be a hybrid, it will have a blue LED similar to new GS, and blue decal. The one feature of the is is that it is a classic looking car. Look at the superb IS photos of members on this forum. They still look fantastic, original and dynamic. So will the current IS when the next comes. I wish they out the 335d engine from a BMW by that name and shove it not the IS body and then we would have a powerful, quiet, 55mpg diesel that tops out at 155mph..... This should be hybrid enough
  12. Why was the engine rebuilt? Did they explain? Given you are on a service plan, the cost should be way lower. I had a 06 is250 since birth and has not developed such faults, and I do not remember recall notices for work on the engine. Maybe get a second opinion from another dealer, or an ndependent Lexus service garage? Good luck with it
  13. Hi Geoff, I just traded my IS250 MM Sport. It's an 06 model with 67k on the clock. I would be interested in what you are paying for your IS. This car has been bulletproof, not even a puncture. All I would advise is to make sure your car has a full history, recall work has been done - this will have happened if it was serviced by Lex. A few years ago they offered me a service plan, and in retrospect, I should have taken it, as my last service was expensive. The only fault I had with the car was with the Mark Levinson DVD CD changer, it stopped working a few days ago - kept the CDd, would not eject or play. However, you will have a warranty and anything that pops up, they will fix it . This forum is a great place to ask questions about your car, as other IS owners will tip you off on issues that arise during the guarantee period. Having had an IS250 since 06, my reaction to it is that I just committed to buying another. Even though they will bring a new model next year, I do not believe there is a more reliable car out there than the current iIS250, it matches the legendary IS200. By the way, the last trip I did in my IS250 was 1300 miles through Europe, which took 23 driving hours, and the car handled flawlessly. Best wishes with your new car
