  1. Hub Bearing

    I've just been told by MoT tester that a rear hub bearing needs replacing. There was no advisory on this last year, only 2500 miles in the past year and there have been no indications that the bearing was near the end of its life. Any views on this? I thought bearings wore gradually. Also the tyres were all changed a few months ago and my tyre guy (I'm pretty sure he would have noticed a dodgy bearing) said nothing. Am I barking up the wrong tree here or is this perfectly normal? Thoughts appreciated. Thanks folks.
  2. Hi All I have an annoying humming sort of noise coming from the front wheel and I suspect it is the drivers side. The noise is constantly there and can be heard in the car so I put the stereo up but it is annoying me now as I have lost the quietness. I have the same two tyres on the axle (Dunlop Sportmax RT), I have replaced the pad, discs and calippers so dont know what else it could be. The noise is not speed related, I mean go up or down, but more noticeable at 30MPH or right after getting off the motorway which I experienced this weekend. I have replaced the lower ball joint, which was really hard to get off my my mech and needed a lot of hammering to take it out, Could it be that my hub is damaged or the bearing needs replacing. I really want to get to the bottom of this and would appreciate any advise? I dont know what a bad hub or bearing sounds like and are they the same thing? Should I just buy a second hand unit and replace it to find out? Cheers guys :)
  3. My car started to make a whirring noise when moving along and the sound gets louder when turning left. So this means I need to change the hub bearing on the front right side? I ordered a new bearing off ebay for £30. Does anyone know if you need a press to change the hub bearing? Thanks
  4. Hello! new to the forum and to Lexus so hoping some of you wiser owners might have some insight into this issue. Basically a few weeks ago my 2006 Lexus IS220D was crashed (hit & run) into with some force whilst parked up for the night. The driver struck the n/s wheel so hard that it forced the whole car half way up the pavement. So far Ive had to replace the wheel, tyre, complete wishbone set up, the steering rack & steering arms. The car now steers and drives again so thats that side of things sorted, however now when I drive the car its like the brakes are coming on and off by themselves, im thinking that it might be the wheel speed sensor inside the wheel hub? Would really appreciate any feedback from someone whos experienced something like this. Thanks in advance

I have a 2004 is 200 and recently have noticed like a rubbing/slight squeak noise from the front drivers wheel. its not that loud because when the window is up you cannot hear it,only when the window is open it can be heard and its driving me made. I ve had a new ball joint and new brake pads but it still hasn't cured the problem. The local garage must think im some sort of nutter keep ringing up and saying the noise is still there. I don't think its a bearing as the noise is still there when I load the other wheel on a bend Just wondered if there was anyone out there who could help PLEASE its driving me mad
