  1. Hello guys, hopefully I have posted this in the right location. I have a Lexus is220d, when driving after about 30 minuets or so, or after high engine revs the temperature gage rises and shows that the car hot. After about 30 seconds it then drops down to the normal temperature again. However after 1-2 hours of driving the temperature then rises and very rarely drops, when it does drop it is only very slightly. When I checked, the engine water had sprayed all over the top of the engine from the water reservoir and there was no water left in the reservoir. Also checking the water that had sprayed on the engine, it is not oily. I am having to top the water up every day, sometimes twice a day. When the temperature is normal the heating in the car works, but when the temperature rises the heating goes cold, even on max temperature. The engine runs perfectly and when opening the oil cap it is not grimy and it is clean. Finally when opening the reservoir cap to fill it, the pressure is being releases causing the reservoir to fill with the water again and spray out of the overflow pipe. I have seen some people mention that it could be the head gasket, however a mechanic mentioned it sounds more like the thermostat, any ideas? I have ordered a thermostat and I will replace that, however I can't find anywhere the actual location of the thermost. All of the guides are for the 250, which is different and it is not in the usual simple location, at the top of the engine. If anyone could point me in the right direction of that, it would be extremely helpful as well!
  2. I' thinking about replacing the coolant in my RX300 and it looks like the only option in the UK is the Toyota Super Long Life Pink Coolant. A quick search has brought up a price of £40 (incl p&p) for 5 litres. As the RX needs 9.7 litres that's £80 to fill the cooling system not including the flush! I've investigated using generic 'red' coolant but it seems that may be incompatible with some of the seals that Toyota / Lexus use - see this thread for more info: So the question is, has anyone else found a fully compatible coolant or know how much dealers charge per 5 litres of the correct coolant? I'd rather not take the risk of using 'red' coolant if there is a chance it adversely affects gaskets / seals but it seems strange that Toyota would choose to go their own way on such a generic product. Damage to seals can take years to appear but can be very costly to put right... If £80 is what it costs then so be it but an alternative would be nice! Any advice greatly appreciated!
  3. Coolant Change Is220D

Just quck request for help, I have been doing oil and filter changes for the next few years and have also been cleaning out the EGR every 20k miles to prevent the reoccurring Check VSC problem. Thinking about other things that need to be changed is the Coolant. So, understand how it needs to be done, checked an online resource and it says that I need to use the drain c0ck on the bottom right of the radiator (fine) and also a drain c0ck on the engine block (rumoured to be just below the coolant reservoir). The engine drain c0ck appears to be a in a very award place, not helped by the fact that I don't actually know what it looks like, can someone help me? To help you help me... I have found a number pictures of engines removed. Please could you play a game of find the c0ck and point it out to me? Any help is much appreciated. I will happily upload a how-2 guide if successful!
  4. Can anyone clarify what I should top up my 2003 RX with in terms of coolant? The handbook seems vague, and I've also read long threads elsewhere on the virtues of Red and Pink coolant.
  5. Hi, I'm new to this forum, I've had my is200 for over a year now, but all of a sudden I'm loosing coolant, I've been looking though loads of threads on here for help. I've got red residue on the top of the water pump next to the bypass pipe, would most people recommend replacing water pump and the o rings on the bypass pipe or just the o rings?? Please be gentle I'm new :-)
  6. Hello all. After 135k miles it looks like my radiator has given up. Having had a look at it, it doesn't look the most difficult job in the world. I've been having a look and I know I need the type with the extra ports as it's an Auto gearbox model. However, there seems to be 16 and 25mm core models available. Do they differ in physical dimensions, or is one just a cheaper version than another? Also, if anyone has any experience of changing these, particularly on an auto, any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  7. Hello, I'm having a little trouble here with my IS200 Sport, model 2001, Manual 6 Speed, 6cyl 2.0. Yesterday i was driving in the racetrack, and suddenly the engine overheated. I stopped the car, cut off the engine, and waited until it got colder. note : But when i Opened the Bonnet, i say that the Water deposit lid was open and smoke was coming out After that, I put water in the radiator, and filled up the water deposit. Driving for some miles, i saw the temperature Gauge rising again. Every time I drive the car, I fill it with water, and the Radiator is wasting water, I don't know where from because everything else seems to be okai. After some investigation I saw that the radiator fans do not start automatically, unless i turn on the A/C. Does anyone know what might have happened, what's the cause and possible solution? Thanks in advance. Irshad Karim
  8. hi i have my car for 3 years now and i have never had any problems with it. but just few days ago engine temp scale reached red zone when i was stuck in a jam. turning heating to max helped and i was in a hurry so i just drove home. next morning checked coolant level - it was empty -__-. since then coolant just keeps disappearing. also u can see white smoke coming out when engine is warm (for some reason its brilliant when its cold). checked oil - seems ok. apart from that car drives smoothly, no obvious drop in power.. what do you think is wrong and what would be best to do? take it to a garage, ignore it or maybe use "magical" quick-fix for 30 quid? cheers
