2010 Lexus Is220 Rough Idle/vibration

Hi

I bought a used Lexus is220d 2010 with 45k on the odo. I changed it from a VW passat highline tdi2.0 (170).

Few things that I observed are

The car is noisy from 0 to 30mph and very quite on higher speed.

And I found Changing gear from 1 to 3 there is noise and some jugger inside the gear box.

When idle the car vibrates. I can feel it on the gear stick, Seats and doors.

In terms of performance not as smooth as the tdi. The car struggles on the first two gears and the 3rd, 4th and 5th are very long and 6th is only usable above 80.

Is this all normal for the car?? .. I got two independent mechs to have a look and they all say it is normal.

But cannot accept the vibrations in the car it is way more from what I was used to. (I do understand the longitudinal alignment could create such vibrations but it is too much of it)

I wonder if there is anything wrong in the car causes this ? Has anyone has such problems. Please discuss. I also have a AR6400-D handy which I am going to use to clean the fuel system. Before this I just need to know others experience in the car. If everything I said is normal i may not bother to use it.

Hi Harry

I used to have a 220d in 2007 vintage.

Pretty much everything you describe is somewhat normal. The IS diesel is a compromised vehicle and not a particularly good attempt from Lexus.......they dropped the diesel pretty quickly.

I used AR6400 at 5ml with each fill up, and then a tin of BG244 in a full tank every 8000 miles. I found they helped a lot. I also cleaned the EGR valve every 8000 miles. Aside from all the points you make the car ran really well and was not that noisy. It was very quiet and smooth at speed and the acceleration (when moving) was very very good.

Hi

Thank you for your reply. I Have the car in for service today. In regards to using the AR6400-D can I use it in full ? How much fuel do I need to put?. And my car will be just out of service is it still safe to Use??.

Many thanks for info.

Not too sure about putting the whole bottle in (bloody expensive), in one go.

Take a read here

and here

and here

There is a lot of interesting stuff to read on the site...and I found it made an awful lot of sense.

I used to put 5ml of AR6200 in with 50 litres of fuel. Apologies...may have got my numbers mixed up...i think the additive i used was AR6200 IIRC it was about £34 a 250ml bottle. AR6400 is probably a modified version of that. You can always ask the question of Powerenhancer they are a helpful bunch ...i found.

Having just had a quick read on the site, it looks like the AR6400 is a bit like BG244 in how it is used. So it is not as expensive as the AR6200 fuel additive.

AR6400......http://www.powerenhancer.co.uk/product.php/666/archoil-ar6400-d-pro-diesel-cleaner-pea-concentrate

Hi thanks

Just got the car out of service. Still a bit same. Rough idling is what annoys me. The gear stick vibrates visibly and can feel the vibration on the seats.

I am going to try Use the AR6400 see if this helps.

I also might call lexus do a diagnosis jsut for the peace of mind. Wonder how much it costs

I use a full can of bg244 to a full tank of fuel once every 5000 miles and I also use arch oil 6200 every fill up,5mls to 50litres of fuel. Mine is an 07 plate and runs well,I've had one issue with a leaky injector but apart from that it idles and runs fine
