The speedo on my LS400 Mk4 has stopped working. I think it might be the hot weather (?)

A couple of years ago the rev counter stopped and Steve said 'give it a thump' which I did

and it started working again and has not failed to this day. I have given the speedo a 'thump'

but this has not worked. Maybe I have not 'thumped' hard enough!!. Any ideas ?

It may be a loose connection either from the gearbox or into the combination meter .I don't think thumping the dash is a remedy highlighted in the workshop manual. The only way to determine the problem is to remove the combination meter and check the impulse coming from the transmission and to be honest this is a specialist task, for which you will need a wiring diagram and a workshop manual

Another solution is to get a working S/H unit from eBay and determine connections that way ,it will also determine if the connections are OK weather the clock is faulty.

I Googled 'The speedo on my Lexus LS400 is not working' and the USA forum told me to give a thump on top of the

dashboard whist driving. Gave it a thump and it has been working ever since. Evidently the needle sticks to the

resting pin, particularly in hot weather.
