Intermittent Windscreen Wipe When Stationary

Recommended Posts

Went for a jaunt to Devon last week and as it does in the UK in summer it rained on the the days I was driving.

I discovered a new gizmo on my Mark IV ,the windscreen wipers go to slow intermittent wipe when the car comes to a halt,I have probably not noticed it before because we never come to a halt up here in the highlands, there is no traffic.

yes thats right = speed sensitive wipers - the mark 3 has them aswell

rain sensor wipers are even better - you take them for granted untill you drive a car with no rain sensor - its so annoying having to switch on and off - or wipe the screen once to clear it

I prefer the Mk4 method.

Once had a Peugeot with rain sensors, but preferred to keep it off.

Maybe I am just too much of a control freak when it comes to wipers!!!

Yes same here, i had a 306 gti6 and the rain sensor wipers were comical, they did exactly the opposite thing to what they should, ie intermittent when heavy rain, then when it stopped raining they would go at full speed :whistling:

in the 430 i very rarely have to wiper myself - i would in sensitivity terms they are perfect - same as the auto headlights - I have'nt touched that switch for a long time.

i have been in a 07 plate mercedes e class and the rain sensor wipers are not perfect and require alot of driver input!

The rain sensor on my RX400h was very good, rarely had to manually override it. My IS300h is very poor in comparison, my dealer has swapped out the sensor under warranty which has improved things somewhere but it still isn't as good. You would like to think these things would improve as technology gets better, sadly not the case here.
