hi all, I dont post much, or even this maybe in the wrong place, but,

i need a cheap front screen fitted for my X plate is200... second hand is just fine if ok..

i live in clacton on sea, essex,

so would like a local`ish firm if possable.

i`m not tight, but a 67 year old pensioner :innocent:

who has loved his is200 for the last 2 years...

as a daily driver it makes me smile each time i drive it....

thanks in advance,

ian..

I think you'll be lucky to get a secondhand one, they are bonded to the frame so need a cheesewire to cut the seal risking damage, then the transportation again risking damage then finally having to clean all the old sealant off and having it professionally fitted.

I would certainly query your insurer's about the excess and loss of NCB as most policies only charge the excess.

Which company is it?

as they say - "the devil is in the detail"

I insure 3 cars, of which one was damaged in the same place parked within 2 months of each inicident....

it was bright yellow, and the second day was in bright sunshine....

insurance companies dont like paying out it seems...lol

agree though, the is200 needs a diferent insurer next time...

i can get a second hand screen fitted in romford (60 miles away) for £120,

have family that way so can visit, but trying more locally first....

OK, some better news guys..

earlier I phoned the Insurance company`s "unhelpful" lines to be put through to the accredited glass replacement company.

explained my thoughts to the very helpful guy who talked me through things...

Now, reading through my online Insurance details and straight talking to the acredited glass replacement company showed most of you were correct in saying £75 is required at point of fitting, and my full NCB "should" be retained BUT held for 1 year in a bond if you like, to see if any more claims have to be made...

just hope my insurer sees it that way

So, yes, thanks for your imput on this, and it must be said,

it did make me feel better about phoning through.

a second hand screen would have come pre stressed by years of weathers and use anyway, let alone the price.

just waiting for the golden eagle to drop some ££`s into my pension pot.....lol

  • 3 weeks later...

its a long story - as usual....lol

still no screen...

26th of november, as agreed with autoglass, the agent / oprtative arrived with my new screen.

the cars reg was pre fed into the system, so nothing could go wrong eh...........lol

autoglass man asked - "is it heated" - dunno said I..

is the rear view mirror affixed - dunno said I

has it got a vin tag viewing hole in the near side - dunno said I

well, I did know these answers but it seems there system dont - really ?

wrong screen !

and so, new correct screen re ordered for tomorrow - defnately - perhaps - hopefully....

the screen is still drivable but has about a 10 inch (growing) crack from a small stone chip where the tax disc would have been, but undrivable as the dam MOT has run out.

so, waiting for new screen so i can book another MOT-- hopefully.

Thanks for the reply steven...

sadly after eventually getting autoglass to bring the correct screen, then fit it,

then fitting 2 new bottom ball joints, plus new nearside rear tire, then re MOT`ing my baby,

boxing day about 5pm, a drunk women in an out of control driving backwards at high speed renault clio, squashed the rear end of my lexus between my daughters car and the errant clio..

posted elsewhere are pictures under the title

"my lexus is dead"

my insurance company arranged for GOPART tp take my lexus away, heard nothing since....

a very sad old man here mate..
