Hi,

My air filter replacement is due now. Any recommendations for the air filter?

Options are

OE ~ £25

K&M ~ £45

HKS ~ £35

Considerations in order are Value for Money (ecomony/mpg/replacement intervals), performance, engine noise.

Thanks

This won't do anything for engine noise (if you want more than standard) but it will work just as well as oem and you could replace it twice as often as recommended and still save money.

With John above regarding noise. A standard panel filter wont create any greater noise than OEM.

I have had the K&N oiled filter from when I had the car, over 3 years now - only got it as I had one in my previous cars and it cost £25 from what I can remember. Guess its paid for itself now but I will be cleaning and re-oiling it this year with the kit that came with it and after I do this I will need more cleaning kit. Filters are on another 3 cars so the cleaning kit does last a while but I guess there's no cost difference over time against what John has pointed out.

As for the performance - I had noticed an initial jump in performance at first but its not noticeable once you have been driving it for a while. Our other cars have been the same especially in the small engine ones.

Your choice really - as I have an oiled one I will keep it in - you can actually see the amount of dirt it collects when its washed out but I guess you can see the same from whats collected in a standard one.

I would go for the K&N which I have had for 3 years.

All you do each is wash. dry and oil again then your sorted for another year. The oil kit cost about £12 which is two years worth.

K&N filter did change the engine noise slightly and there was a better response and throttle so highly recommended.

Kn filter is 45 oil is 10-12 is it really worth money and time it takes u to clean  it,oil replace it, if u change filter every 6 months that option still work cheaper. Ishaq u got 220d which need it as it's a bit sluggish but is250 don't really need it.only reason bought is250 is of its quietness. when I had my is220d would have tried it if knew it would make any difference in performance.

A k&n typhoon is totally different than a replaceable filter. The typhoon as I said about a dozen times now has a huge improvement on noise so you can hear the v6 more easily more important throttle response is much better.  All in all its like a different car.

Ahmed I have the IS250 - I know where your coming from but I personally like the difference it has made to my car but financially you may be better going for cheap item replaced often.
