Finally! Making some progress.

Recommended Posts

Morning Guys,

Thought it was about time I started an update thread for people to see how I'm getting on with my F.

Pleased to say there should be plenty going on with my car over the next few weeks. :yahoo:

The last of my interior parts are due back from my carbon guy tomorrow. Here's the sneak peek photo he sent me.

You'll notice the gauge pod has been skinned as well. Should mean I can get my Defi gauges installed finally! :thumbup1:

I also heard back from GSM about my new Cobra Misano Anniversary seats. They are being delivered next Thursday.

My car is going back to Hayward & Scott on Saturday to help them get a system mocked up for the US owners. Ian will also be looking to test an X pipe on my car, so that will be interesting for owners wanting a quieter option with the possibility of more power as well. May also help lower the decibel level for trackday use.

I've also asked Ian to look at the possibility of designing some headers. Whilst PPE offer good gains, they are backed up with orders at the moment. H&S have a great reputation and pedigree with bespoke exhausts, could be very interesting to see what they can come up with for our cars.

I'll keep you all posted on my progress, and take lots of photos as well.

Cheers for now chaps.

 that carbon skinned trim!

Interested to see the development on the headers/manifolds. Cheers for helping the ISF community over here.

Thanks Gib.

I really like the uniformity of the weave pattern across the different parts. Paul (my carbon skinner) was saying the cup holder lid was a real PITA to do. :wallbash:

Took him an age to take it apart and then put it all back together again apparently.

Finish looks amazing though.

Will try and snap a few photos once it's back in the car. Been looking at a large hole for around 6 months now!

Can't wait to get home tomorrow evening! :w00t:

Mine is too Stuart.

Hopefully H&S can come up with something that doesn't strangle the V8 sound we all love, but will gain a few extra HP, and bring the noise down just enough to prevent us from being black flagged at most of the circuits up and down the UK! :wallbash::wink3:

I'll be sure to keep you guys posted on how it all goes.

So got the centre console etc back in the car. I'm really happy with how it came out.

The gauge pod fits the car really well, sadly the holes are too small for my Defi's though! :wallbash:

Just needs some fine tuning and it should work. :thumbup1:

Hope you like it guys.

Dropped car off yesterday morning with H&S. Will post updates when I hear from them.

Cheers.

Peter - the carbon looks great.  What gauges will you be adding and:

- was it hard to delete the vent holes

- what kind of senders/wiring lay-out will you be using for the gauges

Always like this kind of stuff!

Morning James.

Thanks.

I'm going with three Defi CR Advance gauges. Oil Temperature, Oil Pressure, and finally Water Temperature.

The gauge pod holder is actually based on a pair of IS vents. This means the guts are the same as what I will be removing, and ensures a good fit to the dashboard.

Being the CR Advance, they can be daisy-chained together, meaning I only need to run one wire from the three to the advance controller that will live in my glovebox along with the remote control. I mocked up the controller on Friday night. It will actually sit really nicely on that black plastic stand we get in our glovebox!

The two oil gauges will have sensors attached via a sandwich plate between the block and the oil filter. The water temperature will be done using a T-piece adaptor in the top radiator hose.

Just need to find a grommet on the firewall that sits behind the glovebox area on the passenger side. Should be able to find something that will work hopefully!

I need to re-use my oil when we drain it to fit the sandwich plate. Wouldn't normally bother, but the car goes to Lexus Canterbury for it's service on the 1st June, so seems pointless to waste money buying 10L of expensive oil for a month/two.

Got my new seats arriving this Thursday as well! :yahoo:

Went with Cobra Misano Anniversary edition with one-off light blue stitching (these were custom finished for me by Cobra, hence the slight delay!).

Once the gauges and seats are installed, I will be saving up to get my headers done. May be getting H&S to make them for me. Ian is having a look over everything this week whilst he mocks up the system for the Americans. He is also doing a noise check on my current exhaust, and may fit an X pipe to see how that impacts things.

Busy times, but should all work out quite nicely once it's all done!

Wow!  Way beyond my limited 'maintenance level' DIY mechanics, respect etc.

Please keep us posted on progress, TBH for this kind of thing I'd get a specialist to do this.

Look forward also to hearing about the exhaust.

James

Is it possible to run gauges from an OBDII port? I would have thought temps (maybe pressures too?) would have been reported out to the car's ECU already.

Peter, your car just keeps getting better and better.....

Does that mean you don't have room for a pressure gauge when you fit the supercharger kit????  :)

Not sure David? Makes sense to me, but given I am the only F owner I know of globally that has chosen to run additional gauges in their car, It's all a bit of a learning curve for me! :wink3:

The Defi senders are included with the gauges, so I'm guessing they are calibrated to work together. Not sure if the OBDII interface on our cars would do the same?

It's a valid point though.

Thanks Jon.

Lol, as and when I add the supercharger kit, will have to re-think the pressure gauge!

Luckily that won't be for a while though! :wink3:

God that's awful!

Had no intention of sticking gauges to the dash like that. Really looks tacky in my opinion.

Got the pod and gauges installed today. :yahoo:

Took a lot more work than I'd hoped though! :wallbash:

Thankfully my mate Rob at Darnley Autoworks in Strood did me proud. Took him ages though!

Will post a picture of it shortly.

We have run the wires into the engine bay, but can't wire in the sensors till I get my T piece adaptor to do the two oil sensors.

Hoping that arrives tomorrow.

Started on the seats as well today. God they are a PITA! :msn-cry:

Getting the sliders to fit was a mission and a half! Had to come up with DIY spacers using longer bolts and some nuts I had lying around.

Wiring is a nightmare though! Trying to work out what needs to be transplanted from the OEM seats to keep the warning lights etc off.

Won't get them done anytime soon at this rate.

Still, I'll make it all work eventually!
