......  I remember my first experience of a Camry about 15 years ago when we had one to come in p/ex at my garage.

WOW, what a fantastic green estate 3ltr beauty, fabulous car and in those days ( and especially now ) so, so rare in the UK  ..... it might have been an " import " I suppose

BUT wow, what a fabulous car it was, both to see and drive  .......  enlightened engineering and presence, put most UK cars to shame tbh

just thought I'd reminisce

God knows why.

My first new car was a 1971 MK1 Escort 1.3, which was ok at the time, but a bread and butter car, if ever there was one, and my brother in laws 1100 cc rep special was a hateful , basic, noisy, slow POS.

The quicker models were better of course, particularly for their time, but aren't very quick by modern standards.

My uncle, who was a car nut, had a Crown estate like the pictured model, and it was a fantastic car in every way, except rustproofing.

Bet you'd also have to dig quite deep for a mint example today.

I did run a Camry for a while, then passed it on to my dad.

It was only a 2.2 saloon, two tone blue, but a very nice, ultra reliable motor.

I believe they were the best selling car in the USA for several years running.

Never had a Camry, but did have a '73 Crown Custom estate like this. My mates had the likes of MK1 Escorts at the time,so this made me feel like a Lord.

Virtually extinct now, I would guess.  I once heard that these suffered from flaking paint inside the fuel tank.  Did this happen to yours?
