Blanking off egr valve

I have a 2009 IS 220d which keeps getting the erg valve blocked and goes into limp mode.  I am considering getting it blanked off and the ecu re-programmed.

Has anyone else done this on this model, and was it successful?

Hi  Thanks for your response.  I think that the dpf is the next problem you get after the egr valve clogging up, so I am hoping that a egr valve deletion and remapping will prevent any further problems. I understand that dpf removal is probably illegal in the UK, although a lot of people seem to do it.

It's not just the dpf, modifying any part of the emission control system is a major fail.

8.2.2 Compression ignition engine emissions
8.2.2.1 Exhaust emission control equipment
You only need to check components that are visible and identifiable, such as diesel oxidation catalysts, diesel particulate filters, exhaust gas recirculation valves and selective catalytic reduction valves.

Defect    Category
Emission control equipment fitted by the manufacturer missing, obviously modified or obviously defective
Major
An induction or exhaust leak that could affect emissions levels
Major
Evidence that the diesel particulate filter has been tampered with
