door mirror re-silvering thoughts

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone has explored a cost effective, simple and clear mirror like effective solution to the alternative of a replacement mirror ?

I've searched the Lexus forums here and I can't find anything relevant sadly nor does madame google help very much either.

However i have emailed a company in Suffolk that seems to have/had a director/inventor that produced " mirror in a can " but await a reply..........  not hopeful tbh BUT maybe you guys have explored this at sometime ?

Any thoughts please

Thanks

Malc

Probably beneath your dignity Malc, but on my LS400 I stuck a cheap mirror [probably from Halfords] on the original mirror.

After degreasing with alcohol the 3M foam double sided tape kept it in place for years. After a while I never noticed it was not an exact fit.

I did the very same with mine, works a treat.

I have same problem, so got hold of a second hand mirror complete with good original heated tinted glass for around £30.

Just need to pluck up courage to remove the glass and fit, anyone any tips on how to do this?

Mirrors are held by 2 clips at the bottom and hinges at the top.

Using one of those yellow dusting cloths, feed it in from the bottom behind the glass and coming out the bottom sides. Gently tug both sides together to release the clips, once released gently remove the duster then pull the glass out from the bottom then lift it slightly to disengage the top hinges.

Not as difficult as I imagined, will have a go over the weekend.

Thanks Steve

It feels really bad, like it's going to break but it does come off OK.  There are a couple of YouTube vids on it that may help.

Yes, it needs a firm pull on the duster to release it but, as Phil says, it does come off OK.

Going to back to Malc's original query, I have fitted a cheap mirror with heated elements which I bought off eBay and did a write up on the forum of what was involved. I think it was last year some time and, as far as I know, the heated elements work. The mirror does not dim at night, unlike the originals, but I can live with that.
