Lexus service plans for used IS250

Recommended Posts

Just back from Lexus Ipswich.. my first visit to  franchise dealer for ages for the fuel seal recall. They were pretty good. The fact that they email a video of what needs repair is useful.

Wondering who else has a used IS250 service plan? What does it actually cover? Is the detail online somewhere?

I need a 60k mile service, and my water pump has a small leak. Would that plus another annual service mean I get decent value for money?

Spark plugs are due at 60,000 miles, if they have not been done you have missed a big opportunity. Its a big expense and you could of saved a lot of money.

As the inlet manifold was already off the car i payed 160.00. You could be quoted anything for the plugs. Water pump is also a job not for the faint harted.

There is a dpf of service plan on the forum i believe.

Well that was a good call, must be a set price if having fuel pressure sensor done?? Loads on utube about water pump, its a big lump thats for sure.

Any noise on the pump or just leaking. Price would be dependant on the dealer i imagine. Give them a call see what they say. Could be covered i cant

comment myself.

when you guys go with a lexus plan. Does that include oil change and all the parts or one has to pay for the parts and oil...and they just cover labor What does one pay for and what does one get ?

I do not know as I service car myself. Also, what does kwikfit do? I am new to these things.

Thanks.

I'm just chasing some detail on what the service plan covers. They usually cover labour and major parts that may wear, like the water pump, but not consumables like discs, pads, coolant, tyres, wiper blades, and interior parts. Kwik Fit is a national tyre place that does MOT and general repairs on all cars. Opinions vary wildly on how good they are!

Personally, I have found myself a good independent servicing facility that does exactly what I ask.

The owner has had a Lexus himself so knows the vehicles well. I get him to do the caliper slide pins each time too. Lexus will not even look at this....they just want to tell you its seized and make you fork out masses of dosh to replace the whole caliper. Quite frankly I find this very poor. Furthermore, they don't even do a visual on something like the air filter if it is not flagged on their chart. Had a filthy one left in my car at a Major service ....that's not good enough in my book. Air and Cabin filters and cleaning of MAF I do myself each year and inform my mechanic that they have been done.

I'm inclined to agree with Scudney on the Kwikfit thing...unless you know the staff and have favourable comments of their standard of work.

I had a service plan for the IS250 (jusst sold) It was for 2 years on the essential care plan (cheaper servicing for cars over 5 years old) It was £23 a month - for that price happy to keep up the Lexus stamps. This covers only normal service items though, you still pay for pads\discs etc but again these are cheaper on essential service. The Lexus website has all the prices and info here:

I would not use kwikfit full stop. If i want tyres i buy on line, and have them fitted by people who take care in what they do.

Never had an exhaust fitted by any of these fast fits, fit my own and do it right. If it was stainless i would go to a stainless specialist.

As norman says air filters and the likes are easy jobs. Hardest been fuel filter due to location, do these things yourself save a lot of time.

Brakes are not daunting if you just take your time. Watch what you have taken off, regrease the slide pins and check the rubbers. Visual on the discs and pads.

Replace if needed. Maf is a good call norman, was a regular clean on the Vrs. Use a good  brake cleaner spray dont touch the thin wires.

Who pays for the engine oil and oil filter? Lexus or customer?

I eveluate in terms like this: I buy parts and ask indy to do it vs lexus does it vs kwikfit does it vs I buy parts and I do it.

So it will be quality and price compared.

Hi all

Thanks for the feedback. My main problem is that I don't have a specialist independent anywhere near, not even a Toyota place.

I've looked in detail at the Extended Warranty offer. Key points:

It's a Lexus warranty but the administration is done by a company called TWG who process actual claims.

The warranty only covers parts that fail through normal use not wear and tear, so that rules out most interior and exterior parts, tyres, wiper blades, brake pads, windscreen and glass, etc. Obviously doesn't cover normal servicing.

It's actually the warranty company that has final say on a claim. Not Lexus, so the dealer has to persuade them that a part needs replacing

Maximum single claim is £2,000.

You can't use the car for private hire or similar, or be outside the UK for more than 60 days.

You must have an annual service (although the Terms and Conditions don't say that must be Lexus)

The upsides are:

If you never claim and cancel early you can get a refund on premiums, although this is buried in the fine print.

Mileage is unlimited

There is a reasonable list of parts they will replace if you fail an MOT like shock absorbers, but again not if they have failed due to wear and tear. MOT costs are covered. Exhaust is covered but not for rust.

The warranty is the two years, you pay £74 month for the first 12 months, the second 12 months is free.

It can be transferred to a new owner.

I'm a bit ambiguous but I am going to try it for six months to see if the dealer can get claims paid. All I need is something like a water pump to go and that pays for six months. I will let you all know.

Not sure where it says this?  From the warranty T&C's:

"Repair Limit

The total amount that We will pay You under this warranty during the Warranty Period in respect of the replacement or repair of one or more of the Protected Parts and MOT Protected Parts of the Protected Vehicle. The repair limit is stated in the Warranty Schedule and shall not exceed the amount that You originally paid for the Protected Vehicle as stated in the Warranty Schedule. If the Protected Vehicle was given to You the Repair Limit shall be the reasonable market value of the Protected Vehicle as stated in the Warranty Schedule."

So they will pay up to the value of the car.

Again, from the T&C's:

"(d) ensure that the Protected Vehicle is serviced by a Service centre within 30 days or 2000 miles (whichever occurs first) of each service interval specified by the manufacturer (please refer to the vehicle handbook);  "

In this case, Service Centre refers to a Lexus Dealer.

Personally, I have had 2 claims in the last 15 months or so (Flywheel and rear Caliper), and both were authorised quickly and without fuss.  Yes, I did have an issue regarding their not accepting a claim for worn engine mounts, but to be honest, I would be surprised if any warranty company allowed it.  So, between the two claims, I have made the money from my premium back a few times over.
