Corrosion warranty a word of warning!

This is a post to warn others of the bad experience I had with Lexus. I purchased a Lexus GS450H three years ago and it has been brilliant car, until a few months ago when I noticed both wings at the top of the wheel arch going rusty. No problem I thought the car is covered under the corrosion warranty, so took it to my local dealer.  They passed it onto Lexus who then sent a specialist to inspect the car. To my surprise it was turned down as the paint was not original. I was disappointed with this but explained that I purchased it as approved used so surely this was something that the dealer should have picked up. No the paint is not inspected as part of the checks done for approved used, so the original manufactures warranty is not valid. I even checked with the previous owner (there has only been two of us), and the said apart from some minor scratches the car had not had any major repair.

I decided to have the car fixed myself in a local body repair shop. I asked them if they thought the wings had been resprayed. No the said definitely original, except for the door which has been repaired.

So remember if buying an approved used car the corrosion warranty is not necessarily valid,  even if another panel has been repaired to the faulty one, then the corrosion is not covered anywhere else on the vehicle, unless Lexus undertook the repair.
