Very, Very strange noise coming from the LS!

So, finally, it is all done and dusted. The noise is gone!

Bad thing was that the brake pads needed replacing too, which the mechanic spotted at the same time. Unfortunately I am beginning to be able to hear what sounds like a wheel bearing noise only after about a year since they were replaced! Our mechanic took the car for a spin and said it could be a 'def bearing' if I remember correctly, something like that anyway. Well, at least this awful groaning noise is gone. 

I would like to thank you all for your help and support, what seemed like a major problem in the beginning, though difficult to diagnose, was actually something fairly simple and not too expensive.
