Windscreen replacement 2001 IS200 Sport

Recommended Posts

For those who might need the info, the windscreen of my IS200 cracked when one of the wipers came loose and started hitting the bottom of the windscreen. By the time the wife stopped it (she was driving), a few cracks had appeared. The freezing weather overnight made it worse as a new crack appeared across the bottom of the glass, about 2/3 of the width. As the car is due for a MOT shortly, I started making a few enquiries.

Lexus quoted me £160 + VAT for the part. They don't replace it but call in a specialist. I asked a couple of garages (I don't have windscreen cover) which asked around £270 so I was looking at £450 at least.

Eventually called Autoglass, which initially quoted the same but when I told them I got a cheaper quote from a mechanic, offered a "today's special" of £365.

Beware there are two windscreens for the same model, apparently: one for the mirror mounted to the roof and one for the mirror mounted to the glass. Regardless of giving them the registration number, Autoglass turned up with the wrong one. Oh well ...

LOL, I feel your pain.

christmas before last i had a similar thing happen but not from wipers, was a stone chip that spread.

as my MOT was due i got my insurers cover to organise a new screen.

autoglass failed on the first two visits but initially failed number 3 but for an experienced old hand fitter who poured a white spirit onto the inside of the new screen while it was on his "workbench"  all over and around the stuck on mirror fitting, then set it alight while gripping the stuck attachment and giving it a gentle twist until it was free..after a quick clean up with a blade no traces were left...

I also fitted a new rear tyre, 2 new bottom ball joints, engine & filter service, then MOT`d it..

christmas came, I was happy, until boxing day`s family meal time,

then a drunk, uninsured, unlicensed, un MOT`d clio reversed so hard into my much loved parked IS200 it moved the rear 7 foot into my daughters parked Zafira moving that 3 foot....

gutted....

written off,

last seen at COPART auctions sold for breaking...

I just hope your luck was better than mine...lol

That's why I got the Lexus: uninsured driver wrote off my old Mercedes C200 by reversing her husband's van into it and then told two old ladies passing by "they won't notice" - yeah, right!

Still waiting for the insurance to sort it out since May. Boy, I miss that car.

SAD TO SEE ONES TREASURES CARS DAMAGED..

its a long story, but my dear wife has brain cancer, and so has leased a brand new skoda yeti through MOTABILITY .

Its actually a very nice car with its  1.2 tsI dsg (7SPEED AUTO, TURBO PETROL)

and rives very well with its firm suspension, 17inch alloys and 225 / 55 tyres

but still loo lovingly at me long gone is200

Sorry to hear that (the wife, not the Skoda).

I hope she can - and will - recover.

Best wishes.

As turning up with the wrong windscreen wasn't annoying enough, this morning Autoglass cancelled the second appointment: apparently this time they didn't have the part. Funny how they discovered it just before they're expected. I can't keep taking time off work, so it's over.

After a quick search I found another company coming to do it on Monday for £210. Fingers crossed.

Just a quick note to say I had finally got it done by The windscreen Network, which took just over 1h and cost over £130 less than Autoglass' "today's only deal".

If anything needs it done, check whether the rear mirror attachment matches your car's as the one attached to the windscreen cannot be fit if your mirror is roof mounted.
