Got my car booked for Monday morning for mot even though it doesn't expire until 13 Feb but I like to get it early, getting done in Romford using Groupon voucher for £19.i used it before on my is220d as it's a bargain at that price.

Lexus charge £49 for mot and i never had famous words on advisories as yet, im only paying £19 so if famous words are to be added it's no big deal. I used same place for is220d they didn't put famous words as advisories.

Kwik-Fit have it for £27 just now if you book online. Are dealers likely to come down from the £49 at all? With hybrids they don't have to do the emissions part of the test and while I expect a dealer may have higher overheads I'd grudge paying more that £20 extra just for the convenience of having the MOT done in the same trip as the annual service.

+ 100% passing rate, + equivalent courtesy car + no stupid advisories... murdering mechanic for stupid advisories and going to jail afterwards... and finally I would not trust kwik-fit to hang air freshener in my car. In other hand my last service in Lexus Woodfords was dreadful and I will not use them again.. but their sales staff is good.

Best place to have MOTs done (if you don't use and trust a local garage that is) is a local authority workshop. Local Council, local bus depot, even Ambulance Service workshop. They don't actually carry out any repair work on private cars so there's no incentive for them to 'fail' it in the hope of making some money out of you - if it fails you know it's a genuine fail and nothing dodgy.

Totally agree Sorcerer and for exactly the same reason.  I've been having my cars tested by a public body since the 70's first Leicester City Bus, then Nottingham City Council, then Ruschliffe Borough Council and now back to Nottingham as Rushcliffe's garage services transferred to them.  Had two fails in all that time and both times they've taken me under the car to show me exactly what was wrong.  Plus they also sort out silly things like headlights out of alignment free of charge rather than fail you.

If MOT is pushed out to 4years as recently proposed...... can't see dealers lowering MOT prices and those garages that rely solely on repair business will continue to do what they can price wise to drag potential customers in..... as less theoretically being poured into the funnel at the top.

So dynamic stays the same.

Which is good news if you have a well maintained good quality +4yrs vehicle.
