LS 430 37,000 miles on a 15 year old car. I was going to change the plugs at 40,000 miles but I am a bit tied up at present. 60k is the book change, but they may have deteriorated a bit. Car goes like a dream. Last week did 1,200 miles at 25 mpg.

Any suggestions welcome.

If it aint broke don't fix it.  Why would you want to, if the Car is going like a dream?

On the LS400 I changed mine after 115k and also the leads and ended up with a severed new lead when replacing the plastic covers.

Can't imagine that the plugs will make much difference to the economy on such a young mileage but  others may educate me?

As Stuart says it is not required the plugs do not deteriorate with age, only use.

Recommended change is 60k  then thats the time to change them and genuine recommended replacements are not cheap.

I pulled NGK's out of my 400 so they must have been changed (originals being Denso) and the mileage was supported at 75k but they were well trollied. They were nowhere near the changeable mileage.  I understand NGK's are recommended a change at 40k - so if they were were removed after the car came out of the original owner at 30k miles or so that makes some sense. First paperwork I have is 36176 miles in August 2005. Hasn't been out of Lexus dealerships.

The NGK's still performed well and I wouldn't have known. Short mileage probably put a greater wear rate on them and don't think a combustion chamber is devoid of moisture if the motor is left.

I'd say 15 years is a good run. By all means leave them, but if you enjoy a fiddle and can get them for a good price - why not.

I've attached some pics for your wonder and amazement...:w00t:

I'll probably stike a balance and change them at 50K. At about £70 a set, it is not too bad for 6-7 years of no worry and good reliability.
