I have a "creaky" door - and am almost 100% sure its the door seal so I want to cure or rule it out by spraying some silicon spray on the  seals . I want to do it at the weekend so my options to buy some will be from either Halfords or B&Q.

Question is: will any silicon spray do for this or will it need to be a specific one?

Toolstation do the cheapest I've ever found. I've used it on my door seals, keeps them nice and lubricated......and shiny.

I'm not aware of a special one, but I'm sure someone with a slight adenoid problem will be along and suggest you need Formula 35 with fluoron emitters that doesn't degrade the seals, and is kind to the daffodil population.

I made that up ^^^^^.

Have to 3rd this one been using it for years, there was an offer on amazon a few days ago, I was put onto this stuff by a mate who

helps restore ww2 aircraft, he says nothing works  better, nothing worse than a squeak drowning out the the noise of a Merlin engine on full chat 😂

You're right, them squeaks do tend to drown out a V12 exhaust note.

wife wont drive it .... bonus !!  :yahoo:

Wow.... ya lucky devil. My wife loves driving the Lexus so she pinches it far too frequently.

Don't mind though  .... as I get to take her MX5 for a spin, which I have to say is very enjoyable. So it's a fair trade!

  • 3 weeks later...

Two weeks ago I used this on the seals around the car ...

Rubber seal.jpg

No more sticking seals - boot used to be hard to open as the metal used to stick to the rubber seals .... no more

The drivers door used to creak a bit and I though tit was the same issue with the seals hardening - although the noise is still there it is not as bad as before. Will carry on using it to do the seals and hopefully it will disappear altogether

Doesn't mean I can go shopping now though !  :wink3:

As I only drive the Lex it means its always clean both inside and out. !!

Been looking at the MX5's - wifes car starting to cost a bit (Vauxhall Tigra convertible) to maintain just had to fork out over £500 for MOT and a water leak which is common occurrence on these cars and Corsa's.

Her friend has just bought a new MX ...... nnnniiiicccceee !! We have been looking at an 07/08/09 but trying to find a convertible hard top. Only window shopping at the moment. Need to joint the MX forum soon for some pointers...

Sal had a mk2.5 with a detachable hardtop for some years. Last August we sold it and hunted out a mk3.5 (2010) with the power retractable roof. Super little motor ... can't fault it. The MX5 owners club is a good forum to join. I've found it very helpful since I joined and like here it's filled with good folk.
