Exended Warranty. Any good?

Recommended Posts

Hi all:smile:

I bought my 2007 Is 250 a few months ago and it came with a 3 month guarantee from the dealer with an option to buy a further 12 month warranty when the 3 month one expires (25/2/17.) Cost is £193

Car has done 49k,I only do about 5k a year and car has good service history so is it worth buying a further guarantee? I appreciate these are limited and not like a guarantee you would get with a new vehicle.

All comments and thought would be gratefully receive as always

I was planning to sign up to the Lexus warranty in Oct 15 for my 07 plate is250, then my local independent (who I trust) highly recommended warrantywise as one of the better ones (but far from perfect).

At first I regretted coughing up almost £380 then about 9 months later my front calipers went, It would have cost me £850 from Lexus or £700 from local inc labour. Warrantywise paid for the labour and parts, thus it paid for itself.

I have heard of horror stories for both.

I can only speak from the very positive experience I've had with the Lexus extended warranty.  I had an issue with a rattly door speaker (blown) and a non-folding passenger door mirror.  These were all replaced with no questions asked, with the usual exemplary Lexus level of service.

I'm very positive about it too.  Since purchasing the warranty for £895 (I think) in November 2015, I've had a few claims.  Nearside headlamp assembly replaced (condensation), water pump replaced (noisy) and two rear brake calipers replaced (seized).  Total Lexus retail value c£1,600.  Warranty still valid until November and I have the Lexus Roadside Assistance package too !

Even if I hadn't claimed, I'd view it as an insurance policy for peace of mind.

Thanks for all advice.

I forgot to mention that I only bought the car 3 months ago and not from a Lexus dealer. The guarantee I have been offered is not therefore underwritten by Lexus but some other company that deals in these things.
