LS400 Mileage? How high is too high?

Recommended Posts

If it has been looked after and serviced correctly, it should be fine. The legendary 1UZ is good for far more than 200k, Check the mileages quoted by US owners. I sold a Soarer with 230k on it and it was still an awesome flying machine.

Thanks everyone for the advice. So more important to judge on service history and condition over mileage. I'm planning on using it as my main car. Mostly motorway miles. Maybe 10k a year all together.

motorway miles at 10k a year will be effortless and comfy .............  the only trouble you're likely to get is from the roadworks, but then the comfort of the Ls and the cabin and drive will place you in a good mood whatever the tribulations of the Highways Agency

Yes I'm well aware of the lovely roadworks. I'm mostly driving the m6 between stoke and Blackburn which has endless 50mph zones and traffic. Comfort and isolation from the world is what I'm after!

actually guys i stand corrected - the mentioned car has apparently only 352 miles? and 3 owners.

I should never be surprised by what comes up but 3 owners and all they could manage is 352 miles between them. Perhaps they were the only 3 people in the world that hate the LS400, maybe the 3 owners became  tragically ill or even worse. Notice they have made sure you cant see the Reg #. Time will tell.

May I ask a question? I'm a RX owner, but always keep an eye on the LS forums, and I just wondered why many people are looking for the older LS as opposed to the newer 600h ? Surely build quality is the same in the new ones.

I think the fact is that the LS 400 wasn't skimped on when they were made, whereas the later ones were built to a cost. Also, features like air suspension, rear air conditioning, water in the auto trans, and other reported maladies in addition to the complexity of later models compared to the Ls400 can put some off. That's not to say they aren't good, just perhaps not as good, but that may just be my perception. Also, I think the ved on later models is a killer.

Consensus of opinion is no - build quality of the LS 400 is the best of all the Lexus models. They were over engineered to compete directly with Mercedes S Class.

scary likely bills on the Ls models apart from the Ls400 certainly puts me off changing  ......  greater number of gizmos have a certain limited longevity and cost a fortune to remedy whereas we know that the Ls400 is luxurious simplicity that can go on for a million miles and enjoy " normal " limited cost maintenance and repairs during that lifetime.

Bottomless pits aren't for me, the Ls400 now costs pennies by comparison and the annual maintenance, even if it matches the likely now capital cost is likely to be tiny compared to even just a couple of legs on the air suspension of a Ls600 :yahoo:

Evening all. Been looking for an ls400 and have seen a few but wondered how high a mileage car would you think is still worth purchasing? 150k ? 180? 200k??

Thanks. Matt :-)

The most important thing is how well it has been looked after ie service record. These cars will go on for a million plus which they have in the States as long as they are looked after. Mine has a mere 158K and she is still smooth and purrs just like a brand new car.
