best OBD fault scanner for Lexus Hybrid cars

Recommended Posts

This is the one I bought for my (non-Hybrid) Lexus, seems to work fine.

I use the paid-for version of Torque with it.

No idea if there are any 'better' ones out there, nor am I sure that this will provide any useful info relating to the hybrid systems. I have a feeling you may need the techstream software for that.

I haven't got a hybrid but like Bob says, I don't think the OBD2 system will give you any meaningful information about the hybrid side of things anyway. Fault codes for things like oxygen sensors, fuel trims and the like are all to do with emissions control and the internal combustion engine, not the hybrid Battery and its control systems, although if anyone knows better I stand to be corrected.

This is the one that I've got and it works really well.

thanks for your reply,

I ordered http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141929331418?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT this one from eBay which uses techstream software. Haven't received it yet. I will be back here when I test it on hybrid car.

also wanted standalone one which doesn't require laptop. I may buy the one you have recommended,

cheers

If you mean a miniVCI cable then you must be trying to use it with Techstream. If it doesn't want to talk to the car then it's most likely a driver issue between VCI cable and laptop rather than anything else because Techstream should work for most, if not all models of car.

I've got a VGate Bluetooth OBD dongle for Hybrid Assistant but I find it a bit of a faf using it because if you leave it plugged in and turn the car off, when you next start the car it throws up errors e.g. Check Hybrid System with warning lights and all. These reset using a handheld scanner. So each time you have to remove the dongle when you stop the car. Hybrid Assistant is a great program though.
