Beware Gumtree scammers.

I just posted an ad on Gumtree for a car I'm selling (not the LS) and within three minutes of posting,I got a call from the 'About your accident' scammers. The following 11 minutes yielded two more. I quickly put two and two together and realised they must have got my mobile number from Gumtree. I of course hastily took my number off Gumtree and set the scammers numbers to reject calls on my mobile. No more calls. Such a shame these ***** are doing this and ruining things for everyone. Is it actually illegal?.

I suspect that posting your number openly would be seen as offering your 'data' for public access. 

The scammers access the public web site and they are merely cold calling.

Not sure if you can register your mobile phone on the TPS service (though organised scammers will merely be calling from outside UK - to circumnavigate the law).

Always tick the box to never have your data (email, phone number etc.) shared

And never put a full phone number on a web site that has open access.

Lets hope your mobile has not been sold onto too many dodgy b*stards.

You can register your mobile number with TPS, but as you quite rightly say scammers will find a way around it. My number is registered, done en block by my supplier.
