Servicing Quote Question

My IS250 needs an intermediate service. Out of Lexus warranty now and Service plan is expired too.

so spoke to a local lexus specialist who quoted 155 for service.

F1Auto centre was around 120 i reckon.

Shall i go ahead with Lexus specialist?

Please advise as till now, i had it serviced at Lexus only.

Following good advice on this forum, I have now forgone the Lexus dealership service in favour of my local independent saving a good deal of cash. In for full service includes spark plugs and greasing brake pins today, the quote is below:

Good morning

Here as follows is a quote for a 120,000 mile service.  Included in the service is oil and filter change, air filter change and spark plug change.  We will remove wheels, inspect brakes, check all suspension joints and bushes, check all under bonnet levels and tyre pressures, top up and adjust where necessary. 

We will use genuine parts and 5/30 fully synthetic oil.  The price for all the above is £385.34 inc vat.  If there are any further questions you would like to ask please do not hesitate to give me a call.

I would personally go with Lexus specialist as in my experience going to a local company called Concorde autocentre they quoted me £105 for a service and they hadn't changed anything!!

I would pay extra £35 for Lexus dealership, you will get your car valeted + you can ask for courtesy car (even 24h test drive of new model) - that alone would be equivalent to £200 value (understand you might not be interested)+ they know their cars and they will check much more than just - " will remove wheels, inspect brakes, check all suspension joints and bushes, check all under bonnet levels and tyre pressures, top up and adjust where necessary". I believe standard service covers like 80 points check, from people who are familiar with the car.

Obviously, as you now added change of spark plugs it adds interesting twist, but changing air filter is joke - it costs £10 and it is 10 seconds job (literally - 4 clips and not tools needed).

What I would do in such situation - I would change spark plugs in independent garage, but I would still go for service with Lexus. Obviously, my car is FLSH so it kind of makes sense to keep it is way, if yours is not, then there are no value to be gained by having stamp from Lexus.

I would agree that major jobs like replacing calipers, rotors, pads, spark plugs or things like water pump, A/C compressor are too expensive at Lexus Dealership e.g. Front pads+disks are like £300, which is ridiculous -parts are like £80 and normally it is £20-£25 per corner, so independents would charge like £130 instead of £300... which is worth saving... But the service price at Lexus is quite competitive and saving £35 on it is really not worth it.

Me personally go for lexus just for sake of £35 as using essential service would cost same as independent garages, buy plugs from lexus Birmingham costing 70-80 and get then fitted by independent garage like linas p said air filter and pollen filter do yourself take you 10 mins to do both.

Just a quick vent - this is the difference between Irish and UK service. I'd say I have had about 10 services with Lexus over the last seven years. I have needed a replacement car on most occasions. I was charged at least twice for a POS (Yaris mainly). Other times it was free but the car was a >10 year old Yaris/Civic/similar. I never once had a brand new car. I was never once offered a new car. And I did ask on several occasions and was told that it was not their policy

In UK we are jealous of service guys in US are receiving....:whistling:

Did you use Lexus or Toyota Dealership? If it is Lexus dealership they will provide courtesy car which will be Lexus, not necessary new model, but it is usually CT200h or IS300h, in my experience they are "used approved" cars dealership has for sale or demos, but always nearly new cars.. never had one with over 6k miles on the clock. 24h is this forum thing - instead of having standard tests drive with sales guy, you can instead ask for 24h tests drive and it makes sense to do it together with service.

If you doing service with Toyota, then they would not provide Lexus obviously and 24h tests drive will not be an option, but at least in UK they would provide nearly new Toyota, be that Avensis or Yaris... or other compact model they have available.

10 years old Civic sounds like service you would expect in Somalia.. not Ireland. Just shows how much appreciation Lexus has for customers in niche markets

Do it yourself most of service is checking items. Which most are visual and you can do yourself. Brakes and the likes  inc fluids. Just had my brakes done today

changed wheels and tyres over re greased brake sliders. Oil and filter last week £35.00. A full service kit oil and oil filter .... pollen filter .... air filter ....

Circa £60.00.

I've used two different Dealerships over the years. As you can imagine, the sales over here when compared to the UK are much lower so Dealerships tend to carry two or more makes. The two Dealership's I used were both a Toyota/Lexus hybrid (no pun!). So it carried Lexus and Toyotas in the same showroom and the same out the back in service. That is no joke about the Civic - I was convinced I wouldn't even make it back to collect my car!

I did my big service about 4 months ago, Lexus wanted something like £650 (spark plug change too), i went to cousin's newly opened garage and had it done for just less than half. These boys know their cars way before opening their garage.

It is an easy job to do yourself but if you don't have tools or space to do it then it makes sense to spend the extra few pounds to have the Lexus specialist do it.

If you want to be sure that the service has been made then ask to see the old components that have been changed.

Full Lexus service schedule followed and ticked off by line item. Carried out by local independent using genuine parts. Detailed breakdown of all work done. Saving of over £200 on Lexus quotation. Could have done it myself but presently cash rich and time poor (unusually) so the decision was easy. I'll do the 180,000 service myself...
