4k Upscaling

Which bit of kit would one expect to have the better upscaler? A £200 BluRay player, or a £2.5k Ultra-HD television? Both from the same manufacturer (Sony) and both of the same release date.

Personally I would say the BluRay player. There's nothing else in the player that is cutting edge technology, so more could be spent on the 4K scaler chip.

From his comment in my other thread in this section, I doubt it ...

Yes, saw that, but they are quite different replies. ;)

Sony do have the best algorithms - sammy is soft in comparison, I've not a fantastic amount of experience in this but do know the TV's have the detail enhancement which alters the original image a little more. LG's is Excellent.

Oh no just realised - talking non Lexus chat in a an Lexus or even car related area. Oops sorry.

Thanks for you comment. I'm leaning toward letting the TV do all the upscaling work. I have recently noticed a little aliasing (?) on some images that have been upscaled first by the BluRay player. Perhaps there's some interference if two systems do it?

This non car related subsection is a very quiet under subscribed part of the forum.
