Coming home last night I noticed a rattle coming from the back end - could not pin it down to any particular area when driving or could not see any noticeable issues when parked up at home.

Went into the boot then noticed what it was when I closed the boot ..... number plate was loose on one side and causing a rattle. I am quite surprised that these are stuck on with what looks like adhesive tape. Is this a Lexus spec?

Your "adhesive tape" is not up to standard Noo bie !  I've just changed plates on my old IS250C and it was a bugger to release the plates, couldn't imagine a rattle starting there !

These pads have such an aggressive adhesive, just used some to kit out my new (to me) vehicle.....far superior to drilling and screwing the plates on.  When you use adhesive pads, be sure to cover the screw holes on the boot lid, can be a source of water ingress into the boot well.

Nothing to do with Lexus per se - it's the usual thing with all number plates these days. You can buy the special adhesive tape from Halfords - it has a green protective layer which you remove, then it's double sided black foam.. It is extremely strong, but you do need to have thoroughly degreased both number plate and whatever you're sticking it to. Yours obviously wasn't properly prepared.

I just replaced back number plate mine was screwed and tape. Old one was pealing on the rear the tape was doing nothing. Only problem i had was removing

it, as the new plate was narrower. Boot has self tapping screw threads so i just drilled new plate and screw it on.
