Having owned Lexus' for the last 10 years, in considering the GS450h (2013/2014) for my next vehicle.

Does anyone have anything from experience that is worth me knowing. Faults, flaws etc to look out for?

ive not had a hybrid before, should I be concerned about Battery life?

Thanks

I have the earlier GS450H, and find both performance, and comfort are all I could wish.

Perhaps surprisingly Battery problems are not really an issue. When the Battery is at a point where the guarantee has or is about to run out all that is required is a service by Lexus or Toyota "the minor service will do" and the guarantee on the Battery will be extended for 10,000 miles or one year. You can also pay a fee of about £50 for this instead of a service, but it is free with the service. This can be done up till the cars tenth birthday irrespective of millage.

Leaking shock absorbers are common  over £300 each not fitted, and the extended guarantee will often not cover them. The boot space for some is a little small something I do not have a problem with personally.

Ditto to what John says it's turned out to be a great car and exceeded my expectations.

Does the 13/14 model your looking at have the bigger boot/batteries relocated?

Batteries seem to hold up well and if they do fail then the Lexus Hybrid warranty covers them or specialists can repair them without breaking the bank.

I've just had to have the exhaust replaced but you shouldn't have that issue on the age of vehicle you're looking at.

What kind of driving will you be doing?

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I have the current GS (13 plate), but the 250 so I cant comment on the hybrid aspect. But I can say having owned the GS for 6 months now its a deeply satisfying car to own\drive\live with. Mine is the luxury spec with Mark Levinson sound and 12" screen. Its comfortable, roomy, feels very planted on the road, interior quality is excellent.

The 4th Generation GS450h is a great bit of kit. From earlier models, the boot is bigger as they have indeed repositioned the batteries. Having said that, its about the size of the IS-F boot from memory.

It's certainly a rare car so a good example might be hard to find and you may be looking for a while.

I believe the F-Sport and Premier models also got Lexus Dynamic Handling which steers the rear wheels slightly. Its definitely worth experiencing - it defies physics in the way it actually changes lanes on these models.

The 4GS doesn't suffer from any major problems. Even the leaky shocks of the older models hasn't resurfaced as the 4GS has completely new shocks.

Any particular spec you're looking for and what budget?

Again thanks folks.

I'm looking at either an F sport or other top spec version. Hopefully a 2012, 2013 or even 2014.

Would happily consider any 450h but am not a fan of silver.

Anyone know why Lexus haven't put the F sports front fog lights in the same place as the other models...... in fact, where are they!?

Very doubtful you will have any hybrid Battery issues till between 145,000 - 190,000  or till 2023 wouldn't worry about that, its got a 10 yr 100,000m warranty on Battery anyway.

Lexus seem to be omitting headlights from the newer cars.

The new cars with LED headlights don't really need them as they're extremely bright anyway. Not sure why the GS doesn't have them though as it had xenons but I presume its because they're not needed - tbf Ive only used my foglights once in 5 years

There's only 1 GS450h that particularly stands out to me on the Lexus website:

Crimson Red with Ivory Leather - very rare combo!

Love that Red one. Same colour as my old ISF. Beautiful.

Battery wise that's very reassuring.

Ah no exactly - its Crimson Red which is slightly brighter

Awesome colour though, has much more Gold flake in it than Mesa Red!
