front passenger door lock.

Recommended Posts

New to Lexus, have a IS250, seems strange set up with front passenger door lock. All locks operate into lock position when driving , when I stop the vehicle I can open the drivers door with the chrome handle, however the front passenger door stays in the lock position and when you use the chrome handle nothing happens, you have to manually unlock before chrome handle becomes able to open door. Coming from a Mercedes, both front doors could be opened from handles when car stationary. Is this normal or is there a setting to allow both front doors to open with handles. look forward to any advice.

Thanks Nemisis UK, that was my thoughts when I purchased he car from Lexus Dealership approved used, questioned the service manager and he stated it was a safety feature, seems very strange. Will have to go back, I assume your car operates the normal way of most cars.

Hi Guys, Thanks for all the replies, glad to see I'm not the only one with this setup. Still think it could be safety issue in an accident and the front passenger can't get out.I checked the owners manual and my interpretation of it appears to suggest the inside handle should open doors whether in locked position or not.See attached. door locks.docx

Not sure if you have seen the next page, how to deactivate it etc but may be useful to you, also it says all locks are ment to be unlocked in a collision.. and it states however the system may not operate 🤔IMG_0775.thumb.JPG.d1aac093aec51dc3c92a0aac0356c60e.JPG

Will try and figure out the best set up, seems a very simple set up made complicated. Auto door locks are a great idea to keep outsiders out of the car however with any other car I've had with this autolock system, the front passenger could always get out using the handle. Seems Lexus has a set up whereby passengers lock is permanently locked if autolock is in operation and if disabled anyone can enter car from outside. Simplicity is genius!!.

Hi Steve2006, thanks for youtube, gave it a try tonight , unfortunately when I go through menu . Setup, vehicle, I am then only offered 2 choices, Maintenance and Lexus Park Assist. No vehicle customisation available. Disappointed as I thought you had cracked it when I watched the youtube. Anyway thanks for trying to help me.

All the best.
