Belt squeal

Hi all,

I've had (what I think is) a squealing belt for a couple of months now. 

It's quite an indiscriminate noise. Doesn't always happen when cold, it can kick in at any time, any place, under any circumstance. 

I'm thinking fan belt? Which I reckon I could do myself with a decent guide. Anyone know where I could locate a guide?

Or does anyone think it may be something else?

When it happens does it change in note or other ways when you put the AC on?

I will give it a try tomorrow. But, I'm 99% sure I've tried this and it even does it when the a/c is switched off. So I'm sure it's not a/c related. 

Any more ideas?

Spray some soapy water on the belt, if it goes quiet you've found the issue.

So if that fixes it, does that mean the belt needs replacing? Or that it just wanted some soap 😂

Stupid boy Pike.

It points you in the direction of the fault.

If it works it means the belt is either loose or faulty and needs replacement.

So, it was a leaky water pump leaking into the drive belt. 

Got the water pump and all labour covered under my warranty and just paid £50 for the drive belt.
