2006 GS450h intuitive park assist.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have been playing with the park assist and rear camera on my car and wanted to ask exactly how the park assist works with the sensors and lines on the reverse camera screen.

When you put the car in reverse the camera turns on and at the bottom corner of the screen you can choose from normal parking mode which gives you the straight green lines on screen and the yellow lines which turn with the steering wheel. When you put it in parallel mode you get a warning on screen saying there is increased danger of impact in this mode which you have to press ok on. You are then given a green box which moves when you turn the steering wheel, the box moves further away and in the direction the steering is pointed and that is all it does!!! There is no option to set the green square in position to reverse into that I can see. I've tried to explain in the best way I can!!! Am I missing something or doing something wrong? I see no mention of the parking assist lines in the handbook. Thanks for any help or input you can give!!!

All I can find in the handbook is a section on the parking sensors and also the rear camera but no mention of how the lines on the camera display are supposed to work!!' I'll end up never using it but I just wanted to have a go with it because it's there!!!

Having previously had a Prius with the same screen, and camera along with all the lines ect I cannot fathom the GS either. The Prius had auto parking "look mom no hands", but this seems to be missing in the GS?

John.

The normal reverse park assist works fine, you just line up the green lines with the parking space lines , I also like the yellow lines which turn with the steering to show where your car is going to go.

As I said when you put it in parallel mode you get the green box which changes position as you steer but doesn't seem to be anyway to lock the green box in place to reverse into if you see what I mean!!!

Its one of those gadgets that I probably won't use much but would like to have working if it's supposed to lol!!!

There is whole process to follow with parrarel parking assist. I never bother with it.

there is a nice description in the handbook.

I've found it in the handbook (it was in the nav handbook rather than the main handbook like John said, cheers for that John!!!)

You are right, it's a very involved process to use the assist, you can parallel park a lot easier and quicker without it!!! I really like the camera and the straight green lines and dynamic yellow lines that move as you steer though.
