Ebay item numbers: 382111010287 and 252969102888 - same plates S400 WBS

Second item no coming up blank, but I can tell you that the number was one of oldbaz's, so I assume he sold that car and the other one in the pic, is the one he's selling now.

Who knows though, he moves in mysterious ways.

He certainly moves in mysterious ways does OldBaz. I was recently bidding on a nice LS400 local  to me and in communication with the seller with an appointment to view.

And then the dreaded call, seller had received a cash offer and selling.... to guess who OldBaz, at least i won't have to wait long to see it up for sale again, ha ha.

Wont be buying the one he has for sale now though double the miles of the one he bought but the same price.....bitter.....yes a little....sick of bidding on fleabay making contact and then the seller selling outside of eBay.....oh well the search continues.

Is that happening a lot these days, Ive noticed a higher % of the LS400's seem to be in the hands of trade sellers these days compared to a few years ago.

Sorry but I am lost about regular refs to 'old baz', as oppsed to used car dealers in general, other than he is a (any) used car dealer, personally I don't normaly buy from used car dealers although I have noticed lately there are a higher % of LS400 being sold by them compared to private individuals......anyway I would like to know what it is about 'old baz' which folks indicate not to buy from him? to me he is just a used car dealer...no more no less...anyone got anything speciic?????

Do you mean he advertises as a private indivual but has a used car dealership somewhere.......

If so, whats wrong with that? surely if someone is a used car dealer their job (every one of them) is to sell cars using the best sales techniques they can think of, dealerships are about making money! If I did buy a car from a dealer I would not have expected him/her to have bought the car, parked it on his/her property & sell it at the same price they bought it for, surely if one of this baz's succesfull selling techniques is to pretend he is a private seller then why does that seem to equate with he is selling tat?? or he that shoud not use that succesfull sales technique.....I just dont get whats so awfull about it if thats all

It was a short sentence, easy enough to understand.

He says he's not a dealer, you clearly think he is.

Denis -  I think it is obvious that members are being cautious what they put in to writing, on a public forum.  I am sure you can make your own mind up :wink3:

Please stop putting words in my mouth.

You said he was a dealer, posing as a private seller.

You said that you think that is fine.

I said that he reckons not to be a dealer.

Yes I think he is a dealer because he is constanly coming up on many posts >these days< on the forum, but, what I am not hearing is whats supposed to be any different with him than car dealers in general???????

It is not my mind thats likely to be affected, there are people who probably buy these old LS400 for the first time, UNLESS there is something specific about this baz then why is he different to any other car dealer????????????? unless he tends to specialise in LS400s......

One last question, what? is it that I lack understanding of beyond he things I already asked & to which got not one single reply

any inference from the issue might just be that he often seems to suggest that he is personally getting rid of a specific car because he has a need for something different

BUT all the cars the LOC is aware of seem to be Ls400s and then back to and fro to Ls430s I guess.

This may be a personal preference for an individual who has a crisis of knowing what he wants in his cars OR it could just be that he is a Trader and the Members here have an issue with someone perhaps making out to be something he's not and Buyers not being aware of the Trader implications and responsibilities at LAW.

The efforts, if indeed they are, to potentially misrepresent where car sales are concerned send shivers down one's spine !

I was not saying OldBaz is a motor trader of any sort, all i was saying is he had purchased a nice used Lexus, that i'm sure was being bid on and being watched by many of us Lexus enthusiasts. All be it outside the normal auction procedure. OldBaz has sold and bought many LS430 LS400 over the last few years, i would say an enthusiast not a trader. But yes he certainly has had a few. My only gripe was i was about to view the vehicle and was looking forward to seeing the auction out with my money in my pocket. But good luck to him he got the car and i keep searching.

Thanks Malc, that gives enough clarification to my question.

From whats said it sounds a bit like someone who is/might be selling LS400's & 430's as a source of PT income and as opposed to a full time dealer selling multi makes & models of cars from a forecourt.

Well, I have heard of no specific 'car problem/issues' mentioned about any of the cars he's selling or sold in the past, if there is anything anyone knows relative to that & which fits a pattern (as opossed to a one off) then please outline it. Good luck to anyone who's making a few quid, no skin at all of my nose.

OK Colin thanks for that.

I bought this on eBay in 2011.

I also bought it outside normal 'auction procedure' thats how I got it, instead of bidding 10 or 20 quid above the last bidder I bid the max I decided to pay for it (appx 150 quid above the last bidder) in thefinal seconds of the auction, that threw aother bidders into maybe 'thinking' about it.....to late auction over, great LS400 was my result but outside "normal auction procedure", I was there to win the car not be crowned king of the loosers:yahoo:

I would say that is pretty much normal eBay procedure.

The issue with OB is whether he is a trader who misrepresents himself. On the evidence of what I have read here, I believe he is a trader, as he carries out several trades of Lexus vehicles each year. Therefore he should be offering some comeback to his customers, not masquerading as a private seller who has no such responsibility.

I would emphasise that this is based on member feedback, as I have never had any dealings with the man in question.

Yes when I first saw his name coming up time & time again my initial reaction was that he was a bit of flyboy selling LS400 as perfection but knowing there was something 'not right' with individual cars.....but......as weeks went by of numerous 'implied' negative innuendos about 'old baz', I had also noticed that not one single comment stated anything specific untowards about 'old baz' or not one negative generalization about him or the cars he sells.

So this morning I questioned some folks, well youve seen the result, not one, iota of evidence or implied evidence that he is doing anything at all other than selling LS's in as much  good faith as anyone else,...................... ok, quote of the day, "Fake news folks, fake news"...................unless proven otherwise.

I think you are missing the point. If you are a trader, you are not, by law, allowed to pretend to be a private seller.

From the AA web site.

Buying a used car privately

  • You won't have the same legal protection as you would if buying from a dealer
  • It's up to you to ask the right questions and inspect the car thoroughly before you buy.
  • It's a good idea to get a thorough car check to make sure there's no shady past.

Because your legal rights are more limited, unscrupulous dealers may masquerade as private sellers:

  • Be very wary if a private seller wants to meet you somewhere other than at their home, or if their name is not on the V5C registration document.
  • A dealer pretending to be a private seller is committing a criminal offence.
