Hi,

My main ignition key casing is splitting. Bought a cheap replacement but hasn't lasted long. Asked Timpson's to cut the key to the new case but they refused to take the casing and insisted I pay them to provide the casing for over £200. Couldn't find many other places nearby that cut this key.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Dave.

don't know what kind of key you have, but if it's one of these types: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xlexus+key.TRS0&_nkw=lexus+key&_sacat=0 you should be ok. I've bought a couple, had them cut and transferred the "innards" myself without issue. Still going strong.

You may well have trouble getting a local guy to cut a blank that you've got from eBay because a lot of them are harder than normal and can cause expensive cutter damage.

This guy on Ebay will provide a blank and also cut it from a photo of your existing key.

Thanks for the reply's. That's the issue I can get the case, but no one will cut the key, so I've been getting the case and fudging it and forcing the old key in there. But I'll give the link on eBay Sorcerer recommended a go :)

Our local Timpson type cutter couldn't cut the key. Specialist key cutter in Peterborough market could.  I can't remember what the issue was but I think it just needed a more modern cutting machine.

have you got the key 🔑 number(usually in the service history book) or on a silver tag attached to one of your keys. There are key cutters that will provide the fob and cut the blade from the key number
