First time Lexus owner

Hi, just wanted to say hello.  I've been a Lexus owner for all of five weeks, a 2012 IS 250 which I managed to pick up with only 12,500 miles on it, and am loving the car, it is a real joy to drive.

What made me buy a Lexus?  Well, I was looking at other V6s, including the Insignia 2.8T, but believe it or not, with lower miles and a much better spec, the Lexus was actually cheaper than the Vauxhall!  The spec of the Lexus, even though it is lower HP compared to the Insignia, made this a no-brainer.

See you around the forums!

Tim

Hi Tim, welcome to the forum.

The v6 will be silky smooth and I'm glad you're enjoying it.

Get some pic's online for us at some point, we like pic's...

Hello and Welcome to the forum!

If you have any intentions of completing any maintenance, modification or just general enthusiast type jobs on the Lexus now seems like the ideal time to start a thread on the Brand New build thread section to share you ideals and photos and hopefully get a few ideas and tips along the way.

Thank you for the warm welcome.

Will put some photos up soon.

It's an unmodded auto RWD (I was ideally looking for a manual AWD version, but the phrases "hens' teeth" and "rocking horse droppings" spring to mind).

Am looking forward to drastically increasing the mileage on it!

Yeah they're great cars, comfortable and reliable. Suprisingly low mileage, must seem almost new :)

What made you choose Lexus?

Thanks for the comments, guys.

I've had V6s before, both were 3.2 Vectras.  Having had my own Austerity Measures for the last five years, driving a 1.8 non-turbo Saab (yes, they really did do a petrol one without a turbo), I wanted to go back to a V6, and was initially looking at the Insignia 2.8T.  However, I soon realised that to get one with low mileage and be around four years old, I was going to have to pay around £15K, whereas my budget was £12K.

So I broadened my search, keeping the V6 as a requirement, and spotted the IS250.  The wife and I went to a local garage that had one in to see if we'd like it, and were impressed with what you get for your money.

So I looked further and found this one, and have been grinning ever since.

I would've liked a manual box, but as a bloke (and, therefore, genetically predisposed to be lazy), the auto is sweet enough.

Well the manual would have cost you more in road tax and by all accounts is not best suited to the car in any case.

I wasn't sure I'd be comfortable with an auto after a lifetime of driving manual transmissions but I needn't have worried. Some models have semi-manual gear-shift paddles on the steering wheel and so you can use them if you feel the need to have some manual control.

Just noticed - £12k for a MY12 with 12k on the clock - something about the number 12?
