Servicing - Essential v's Full service

Recommended Posts

I got two prices this morning:

Essential service - £164

Full service - £275

My car is 2009 SE I with 90k. It has FSH with all but the last two from Lexus. I'm probably going to keep the car for a further 12/18 months so with this in mind thought having a Lexus stamp in the book would be appealing to any potential buyers. My question is do you still get a Lexus stamp with the essential service and what does it include above oil and filters change or is that it?

Better check with the dealer you intend to use beforehand. Some have been known to refuse to stamp the book unless it's a full-price service.

Lexus Edinburgh have always stamped the book for me but they add a handwritten note to signify it was an Essential service.

If it's a minor service, it'll basically just be an oil & filter change and some visual inspections. Plus your car will get washed & hoovered. Anything else you might want done (Pollen filter, Air filter), just buy them from Lexus Birmingham's eBay store & DIY.

so oil and filter change plus valet and general inspection for £164?

I suppose you get the stamp as well which looks nice in the service book.

Thanks for the advice

Essential service is the same, but only cars over 5 years are eligible. There are Essential Full and Minor. It is official Lexus service so they have to stamp the book, the reason they call it "essential" and made it cheaper is to attract 5+ years car owners to use Lexus dealers instead of independent services.

My experience using it - same as normal Lexus service except in normal service they put something like "Castrol 5w30 Magnatec" on invoice whereas in Essential they say just "oil 5w30"... meaning it might be non-branded, but reality is that when they order things like oil in bulk it costs peanuts anyway so I doubt they are stocking separate "no-name" oil just for essential services (and if they do, how do they prove they haven't put it instead of Magnatec for all other services?!) .
