Certification of first date of registration

Recommended Posts

Can anyone advise on how best to get confirmation of the first date of registration,I purchased a LS400 which was registered in the Netherlands on I believe 20th October 1995 from a record in the service book however DVLA insist I obtain a letter from a owners club registered on their web site and it appears no Lexus club is,this is all that's preventing registration. Any information would be most welcome.

The first registration date will also be held by LEXUS and can be verified through the vin , contact Lexus UK in their UK HQ office and they should be able to help.

Are the DVLA saying there is no record of a V5C which is the registration certificate within the UK.

The EU as similar first registration criteria but a different document is issued within  each country .

If you can get the first registration date and where it was done you should be able to get a duplicate from that locality.

Hi the problem is the vehicle was brought into the UK three years ago and never registered, I purchased as in excellent and original condition as for its age on a whim ( like I need a project) Lexus Uk say I need to go through Lexus Europe, Lexus Europe have supplied a certificate of confirmity which doesn't show a first date of registration and say they can't confirm that . DVLA say the need written evidence either from Lexus or a reckognised owners club.

apart from first registration that i know nothing about, it used to be a simple fact that an imported vehicle had to go to some VOSA Testing station somewhere ( local to you ) to be able to get it's registration in the UK ......  Conformity and a new MOT ...............  if Lexus confirm the car conforms then one would think the import scenario for registration in the UK would be quite simple...............  just my thoughts, hope they might be of use

I would go back to the DVLA and ask them to give you a path out of this scenario ,There is a procedure that was used for vehicles that were either kit cars or vehicles with no original registration history that was known as "Q"registration and the vehicle after an inspection by VOSA and all the particulars noted a unique Q reg is issued basically giving the car a new registration preceded with the letter Q.

I can understand why the DVLA are hesitant in registering a vehicle which was brought into the UK from the Netherlands 3 years ago and not registered at the time, question I would be asking is why was it not registered then and where is the original Dutch registration document.

This would suggest it is still registered in the Netherlands as most countries would issue some paperwork for an export vehicle, my imported Celsior was already UK registered on purchase but still came with Japanese documentation including the "Deregistration Certificate" required by the DVLA.

Perhaps a cheap Easyjet or Ryanair flight to the Netherlands vehicle registration office may be the only real option with a VIN and numberplate details.
