Quite glad I've sold my lexus now

Recommended Posts

After a recent thread was locked due to it being hijacked . Which I'm probably part of so I apologise. I feel the need to say something.

Most people  on here are extremely helpful and are nice people. The acre and Messi  .to name a couple. But there's a few who just seem hell bent on an a argument. Don't get me wrong I can hold my own in a row . But if I wanted to get grief for an opinion which was no way harmful I'd go on mumsnet.

Let's face it we've all one thing in common .we like cars.

Mods .if you don't think this is appropriate delete away

Where's that black ball - only joking!

On the Mercedes forum there is a Man who has posted over 20,000 and a nicer man you could not wish to meet.  Not only is he extremely knowledgeable but has assisted many members with their problems and even their electronic parts when something needed repair. Having owned over 100 cars and been an electronics engineer and a car trader in his lifetime his knowledge is invaluable with a marque that frankly has more electrical gremlins than any Japanese car.  Despite this on occasion he gets "banned" maybe for a period of three months. Personally I've never found any of his threads offensive but the mods do sometimes feel he has overstepped the mark or perhaps trod on their toes?

Stuart,

If you are talking about Malcolm (Television), then I am saddened to inform you that he has recently passed away after making over 150,000 posts.

I agree with you that he was "a gem" and his passing has left an unfillable void.

Regards

John

John, I'm so sorry to hear that Malcolm has passed away. Thank you for letting me know.  Not only did he contribute greatly to the Merc forum but having had three wives he looked after one of the earlier ones when she had Dementia.  A giant of a man to my mind.

I had the pleasure of meeting Malcolm at an MB get-together and he was indeed a lovely man who couldn't do enough for people. He was also a full-time carer for his ex-wife as she had no-one else.

And he did regularly baited on the MB forums :(

I do like the way that John has different numberplates at each end of his Lagrande.  I thought for a while that I might like to do that on my car, but then I realised it would just be another bit of data to try to remember.

: o )

As Chasdad has left Lexus I hope he won't mind me adding a little about Malcolm Watford.  I have spent the last hour reading the hundreds of threads of condolences to his family on MBOC. To those on the forum and there must be quite a few ex-Mercedes owners as well as those who have both marques, you can find an image of Malcolm if you put his name into Google and check out the Facebook name thats listed.  We have some extremely helpful members on this forum and I could name them but it isn't necessary. All that is necessary is that we respect each others Postings and reserve comment that might cause offence.  As Acre said, life is short and I suspect for many of us (LS olwners) we are in the late bloom phase of life where nearby Winter blasts have a habit of destroying that last bit of beauty.  I said twenty thousand Posts and was corrected to one hundred and fifty thousand Posts. Remarkable and unmatchable and truly someone who always wanted to give helpful advice as soon as requested.  Only glad since joining this forum that Lexus seems to require less input to maintain vehicles on the road - with the exception of the  Caps that is!

Copycat! I wus there first! (-:

5 years ago. Sold after a year to a Welsh million £££s scratchcard winner!

Now (not really) tempted by this

"Using experience from building 2 of these for the track, this is the first road version built in the UK, done by a Citroen specialist restorer.
A white Citroen 2CV6 from the mid 80s, completely rebuilt and restored, but with a BMW 1130cc flat twin engine, producing 105 bhp instead of the usual 29 bhp!!! Torque is tripled over standard to give the lightweight car amazing performance with no effort or hard revving required.
A fortune has been spent on a brand new galvanised chassis, new brakes, new roof, uprated clutch and gearbox, brand new standard wheels but widened to allow modern wider tyres, anti-roll bars, it has a heated front screen and internal heater, refurbished standard seats, an uprated dashboard.
It is powered by a serviced and lightly modified BMW R1150RT engine, with custom brand new stainless exhaust system, plus a dynojet kit to get fuelling accurate, to suit the simple and free-flowing intake and exhaust systems.
The car is either new or refurbished throughout and is simply a unique car, now in the final stages of build.

My Elgrand was fun. It may LOOK huge but has similar wheelbase to LS400, just a bit taller! Electric curtains! Electric side door. 50K miles, 12 years old, immaculate.

My (somewhat confusing?) addition (above-previous post)  about a hot-rod 2CV is an indication that (my XM apart?) I'm settling for something smaller next.

Here's the 2CV in action.

I keep looking at la400s.  But think I'll keep the elgrand .

I'm looking at starting to collect vintage bmxs to keep me busy

Are you? (off topic I know) I've just started my first.  An Ammaco Mongoose wire wheel from 82.  ACS Z Rims and all original bar the seat, so  I bought a used Kashimax seat.  It's great fun.  I also have an SE Cruiser, Yess race bike and I've a Hutch 26 XL on order.  It's great fun and have you bought the RAD BMX book, it's ace.  BMX is very addictive!!!!!!!!!

Not bought anything yet. It's my birthday next month so I just told my wife and got laughed at.

I know nothing about them barring the names I remember as a kid.

A friend had a Rayleigh burner when we were young and I'm hoping it still at his parents. If not I've seen a mongoose I quite like. Or even a Rayleigh super grifter

The itch I get about re-living my past is here.......www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzW_ERSgFRY

Brings back memories from early 80s.

(Jay Leno's Garage. Citroen DS, in case it doesn't register.)

My friend had a Safari estate =- sublime ride, very close to the LS I believe.
