The World's First Hybrid Coupé

Recommended Posts

When sifting through some old press releases and articles earlier today, I was reminded that the RC300h was, upon its launch, the world's first hybrid

coupé.  As snippets of information go, this may not make the pulse quicken with excitement but will probably merit a footnote in some future history

of the car industry.

..but... wasn't it released after BMW i8, unless somehow i8 is no hybrid or not a coupe?!

Now i8 production version was presented in 2013 and went on sale in June 2014, whereas RC300h was presented to public in 2013 as well, but only started selling in November 2014.

Beyond that there is the Holy Trinity aka Ferrari LaFerrari which is technically hybrid, Porsche 918 PHEV and McLaren P1. Finally, Honda CR-Z (2010) which Honda consider to be a coupe - though I would not argue if somebody would say such claim is rubbish (it is actually 2 door hatchback).

Quite clearly marketing material is not exactly accurate, I guess if they would say it was first "sensible" hybrid coupe then it would be more accurate.
