At least when insurance companies arrange the repair there is an understanding that it comes with maybe a 5 year warranty and all parts used are OEM

If you was to use an independent then they might well use secondhand parts and not give that 5 year warranty .....  and of course some secondhand parts are absolutely fine .... from a breakers

This is why some secondhand written -off prior are really good cars, say, using a good secondhand bumper or door or glass, light settings or whatever, that made the car uneconomical to repair for the insurance company with new OEM but well within the financial limits of any other dealer ..... and very good repairs and cars too many of them.

The probability is it wasn’t “Lexus” BUT one that they endorsed, when collecting there was nothing but Lexus cars there, they were based in Laindon Essex not at Southend, sorry to say they were totally crap, paint finish varied on what angle you looked at it, somewhere I’d never entertain, I’d rather the lifetime warranty with the repair

You need to check the small print on this, as the policies I have seen are worded as 'original specification' parts, which would include pattern parts.

However luckily there are not so many pattern parts around for Lexus cars.

Another question...who here are confident that if you had a bump your insurance company would approve the repairs to be carried out by Lexus, as appose to one of their 'official' repair places? It's a question I'm currently asking Sky insurance(I'm on hold)?!

Direct line eventually agreed when the wing mirror was smashed off my RX by a bus. It took some arguing though but my main reason was it was due a service and  I wanted it done at the same time by lexus Edinburgh.

I used to use Sky insurance years ago with my imported MKiv supras. I had one issue when I'd just renewed with them , changed the car and wanted to ditch the policy because could insure the new car cheaper elsewhere. They said they wouldn't refund the policy if I cancel but I did anyway and did receive a refund. Other than that they were fine over the years.

When I collected my car from the garage they showed me all of the parts removed from the car and had to keep them on site for 30 days after completion of repair for audit purposes, a demand placed on them by my insurance company. Additionally they claimed that they were contractually obliged to show me all receipts for the parts.  

The guy claimed that all of his insurance work was the same nowadays, to stop garages scamming the insurers.  

I understand that everyone is saying auditing by insurers is what stops garages taking the ***** and also protects customers.

my intimation was simply that by using good secondhand parts from a prior broken car the resultant repaired vehicle can be a really good buy with an excellent " like new " repair.

And many cars on a vehicle forecourt might well be repaired with secondhand parts, the garage having bought the car from an auction and repaired the car as such, and then for sale.

So so to give a quick bump to this thread @DAN@ADRIAN FLUX And his people have received all the documentation pictures and so on of my is-F and for the £65.00 fee the agreed value of my car a 59plate with 45k miles and and A1 condition is agreed between us as £19500.00 this IMO is exactly how I see its value to be and would like to thank Dan and his and the staff for the quick and efficient response.

Now obviously all others who wish to go this route would have their cars assessed on a individual basis but I think it represents market replacement value or there abouts and not what it would be  if the unthinkable happens without an agreed value.
