Ok, that's interesting. Thanks. I seem to recall my last 14400 dial up modem ten or fifteen years ago giving about 5-6k, so it looks as though a ten fold increase in speed has come about.

(60k a second? Ouch! Have to confess I'll not be bothering! Oh, the money I've saved over the years not buying into technology...enough to pay for my Lex I reckon! :) )

My line's getting ceased tonight sometime as I'm beta testing the new Clara 1MB consumer product supposedly - I have a sneaky feeling they're gonna cancel the line and then tell me theres a problem so I'll be down for a couple of weeks - they've told me today that it passed the line tests so any problems and they'll get a right mouthful from me!

Will see you guys when I'm back online...

  • 3 weeks later...

Well I have just phoned BT to see if they wanted to keep me as a customer as I have seen Broadband advertised with them for £19.99 per month!

How this works is it is another sp called BT basics but you are restricted to the use of the service, have to buy a certain modem etc.

So to cut a long story short I said I wanted to leave because of their high charges! I got put through to a customer relations officer (who I could not understand very well) and said I could get 2 megs for £34.99 suddenly the price for my normal service was being discounted.

They have offered 10% off the £29.99 for a year or if I go to the 1 meg service with them they will do 4 months £36.80? instead of the £40.99. I have gone for the 10% off at the moment but she has said that if I am still not happy them ring back again in a few weeks and see what offers they have on, also I am out of contact and the changes won't effect this.

So guys if you are paying £29.99 for your service get on the phone and tell them you are moving SP's! I know it's only £3 a month but it's better than nothing.
