New Owner - Just a Hi!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

New to the Lexus 'Fold' :) Been a Honda owner all my life and I tune and repair them. I just picked up my 2016 IS300H F Sport in Mercury Grey to replace my written off Honda Accord Type S 2.4 :( . Will look forward to contributing to the forum wherever I can. First up I am using the Carista App to unlock a few features that the dealer promised he would but didn't (Global window open and close) its amazing what Canbus can do! Secondly I replaced all the old 501 bulbs to Osram LED's (all 11 of them!) and the car lights up alot better than filament bulbs especially the puddle lights.

Through my contacts in the states and Japan I am seeking to change the rear diffuser to the IS300 2017 model and ordered already the vertical cargo net (non uk option I believe) along with the colour coded door protectors. I have also sorted out Rear Privacy glass tint on Day 2 of ownership from Pentagon window tinting in reading :)

Not really going to the extreme like my previous Honda's like 6 Pot Calipers, Coilovers, lots of JDM stuff and Supercharging. I'll just enjoy the 4 banger auto E CVT gearbox and 'waft' wherever I go (getting old these days, I'll leave the expensive upgrades to the young ones :) )

I'm also toying with the idea of adapting the BSM system to the F sport but this will be a long term project.

Anyway thanks and errmm I guess I will post soon :)

Cheers now

Andrew

Hi Andrew, the Accord is a nice motor hopefully the Lexus serves you well.

I sold my Civic partly because moddin' was taking so much time/money. I haven't looked back since I moved here.

Let's see a pic of your IS.

Cheers, Lee

Hi Andrew, welcome to LOC. Lurking for 10 years? Congratulations on your f-sport. Had one as a courtesy car for the few days, amazing! But I will most likely get the RX next.

Seems like you are already busy..

Yeah lurking for on the forums for so long as we supercharged an Altezza back in the day then supercharger was taken off and a bigger turbo was bolted on just wanted to do a more research around the ecu side of it. However it's a new journey for me as this is my first Lexus and it will be interesting working on it and really getting to know it more.

Speak soon lads!

Pics coming soon but nothing really to shout about it's just like another lexus lol..

This sounds interesting. I hadn't heard of Carista before. Looking at its website, it seems to suggest that (among many other features) it would be possible to turn on automatic dipping of the passenger mirror when you go into reverse. Does that seem possible? It's a feature I'd find very useful.

Hi Andrew and welcome to the LOC. We are a friendly bunch so please don’t hold back asking questions big or small should you have any problems with your car. We always welcome ideas on how to overcome problems with our cars but as they are the finest cars in the universe they don’t go wrong that often.

We always love to see pictures of your cars inside and out so don't be shy.

Happy Lexus Motoring.

Mike.

Hi mate - I'm not totally sure but I would take a chance - as I have premium leather and p nav according to the dealer this feature is included in which I find very strange which feature is included in what package. Its definately worth the try.. Carista will charge either iirc £8 for 1 week trial or around £35 for an entire years subscription. I opted for the weeks trial as I was confident that all the options I want to unlock I should have ample time to make up my mind lol. On a side note, my friend years ago had an E46 M3 and took it to a BMW specialist who charged him 50 quid PER item to unlock like fold mirrors on lock etc! I think he spent 600 quid alone on that as BMW quoted him £125 per feature in which they were very reluctant to do it anyway.

You can find the carista OBD dongle on amazon for 15 quid and its not only for use with carista its a generic OBD reader and I normally use Torque pro when I'm on the go to diagnose (basic diagnosis) a customers car. So the dongle itself will have a decent shelf life.

Global opening and closing of windows is great just hold either lock or unlock and the all the windows either go up or down. ideal for those rushed moments when you've killed the ignition, got out of the car and just realised one of the windows are half cocked.

Cheers for the Welcome Mike. I like to get underneath the skin of the IS at tech level so probably will subscribe to toyota tech website to have more of an understanding. I'm speaking to my distributor of performance parts in the states and as the IS350 is quite a popular model, hes hearing that he could be working with a tech company that is developing a module that transforms the Lexus navi system to android auto or apple carplay. this is definately on my list to do as I find the Lexus infotainment interface is a little old hat.

You'll want to try techstream, not Carista.

I was going to ask about this Matt. Which dongle/interface do you use? Techstream yes its dealer level software however for quick and easy mod's on a consumer non complicated process I would use carista IMO anyway...

Maybe maybe not. Example I want to turn off the bonging noise when door is open but Carista can't do that. My mirrors do move down in reverse but did not see an option to turn it off.

Don;t know if techstream works yet as need to get a 64bit cable - the cable I have would not work with 64bit windows annoyingly.

Thanks, that's helpful. When I look at the Carista website it shows a list of sample functions that can be customised. This list is different for different makes and models. But it does say they are "sample" customisations, so I was wondering if this was an accurate list or just examples of the kinds of things you could do. For the RC-F it lists dipping mirrors in reverse but if you can't see that as an option on your RC-F then the lists are presumably not accurate but just examples, as they seem to be suggesting.

I can re-check. Maybe I skipped over it as not something I was looking to alter. Let's say I can't recall seeing it.

I will try and find out this weekend and screen shot it for you.

That would be great. The website also lists a number of beeps and bongs that you can control but I wasn't sure if there was one that covered your situation. Presumably it bongs when the door is open plus something else, like the engine is on or the windows are open or something else, rather than just the door open without any other conditions.

My 2013 F sport already dips the mirrors in reverse, I presumed this was a standard feature

Did yours come with premium nav or leather? I'm to figure out whether this feature is hidden in all grades...

My dongle came from China, nothing expensive. Works well on my Windows 10 Laptop.

That's a nice key cover. Where did you get it?

Seller was scared to sell to me as she thought that all fobs had 4 buttons - I told her that the emergency button was iirc for USA only so it fits!

Hi

Yes mine has the premium nav and leather which is also cooled as well as heated .it sounds like everyone has all different options which is weird. Thought things were more standard than they appear to be
