1998 Gs300 Sat Nav Problem

Recommended Posts

My Sat nav has stopped working and gives the error message "Please open the door, please check CD ROM". I have checked the disk and it "appears" fine. Do I need a new disk or is this something more serious/expensive? Also my "menu" button no longer works and seems to have stopped working at the same time as the sat nav. Are the two things related? I've had the car from new and it has not been messed with in any way. Any clues anyone?

Yes I have taken the disk out and cleaned it several times but it doesn't help - when the problem first occured I removed the disk and cleaned it and it seemed to fix the problem but it soon happened again. It worked on and off for a while, now it will not work at all.

You should check two things. Firstly that the connector to the disk unit is properly seated - the unit will swivel upwards to help. Secondly, the laser reader may need cleaning - try one of the CD cleaning kits.

Failing that, I would pop into the local Lex dealer and try a different disk.

I have the same problem on my MKII 1998 GS300.

Had the unit out and 'serviced' by a mate who does auto electrics but no joy.

My problem started when I changed the disc to a new version.

The sat nav unit is made by DENSO, they have offices in UK but are not interested in touching the unit and advise to return to dealer.

Dealer has advised that ECU is faulty and all unit needs to be replaces cost approx £2k +vat.

I have sourced someone who could possibly supply a second hand one, but keeps bringing me toyota ones and not lexus.

If I can get one, will try to get for you also will pm with price as I don't know how much but safe to safe much less than dealers.
