1998 GS300SE 60 K service due. What sort of cost can I expect to pay. What is reaonable and what is not ???

New(ish) to Lexus. Very bad experience with main dealers so I am a bit dubious.

Had a Saab 900T, main dealer service missed the fact that the rear calipers had seized. Only surfaced when I took it to a non specialist garage mechanic. He is very good, he subsequently carried out a further 4 services on the Saab (all spot on) before I replaced with a Lexus last year.

Previous Lexus B service £220 at my local Dealership. So with the pocket a little tight I was wondering what cost at main dealer and whether I should re use my local (fair priced) mechanic.

Any views ???

Worth ringing around Lexus dealer to get quotes. The average will be around £600-700 but I know some dealers will charge over £800 and one dealer has charged well under £500 in the past.

With the cost of this service it makes sense to join GOLD and get it serviced at a dealer that gives discount. You will save more than it costs to join and you are also helping out the club.

.....or. visit the dealer and see if you can speak to one of the service engineers.

Maybe he or she could give you some advice on when they can fit you in to their out of hours servicing.

I think you will understand what I mean.

Your car still gets serviced by a Lexus technician but with out all the bling bling.

ruds,

Assume it is the 63k service. Changing the spark plugs requires more dismantling than for the timing belt. Hence the high labour charge.

No indication of where you are. If you are down south, I recommend Lexus Hatfield who did the 63k service and look after my car. No complaints, nice people who know what they are doing. £495 plus V.A.T. after LOC discount.

The cambelt change is gonna cost you around 600-700 quids at a Lexus dealer mate - personally I wouldn't trust an independent to do it, and would be surprised if any were able to set up the tuning without the specialist bits anyways

As far as I am aware it's not that difficult a job, according to the mechanics I know - Will have to wait for Colin's take in this :D

Not too difficult if you can get the crank pulley bolt undone.

Have a look here - this is for a Supra but basically the same for the series I and not too different for the series II (follow the 2JZ-GE parts)
