Does anyone know how much the 63000 mile service on a 1998 GS 300 S is likely to cost? I was just praying that it was not one of those that requires £400 Spark plugs, £300 Belt change £150 oil filtes and so on.... Please say it aint so!

Rgds,

Hi again Claire,

Seems like you have reason enough to be scathing about the brand. do u thin ku bought a dud or your dealer is the dud? Sounds like there are various standards between dealers.

I have been to get my radio back on and it is proving a 'mare!!

It's certainly my experience and it's unfortunate to say it with such a great brand like Lexus and all that stands for quality and workmanship, but dealers are very different. Personally I have found that Lexus in Coventry is the best one so far, service is excellent, personal care is also excellent and believe me it has to be for me to drive from London to their to be happy. I would love for a ranking of dealers to appear here in the club with peoples ratings.

Perhaps Clare has had a bad experience?

Clare, since you are in Berks, haven't you tried the dealer in Bracknell near the John Nike centre, I've passed it many times in mine when I'm in the area on business but never tried it out for services etc.

For those of u who have not reached 63k miles in your GS 300 yet DONT! the service is a cheap (cough, cough..) £220. Ok, can live with that. The timing belt change however, comes in at a staggering £540!!!

What the F*** do they make it out of? Kryptonite!!!!!???

Sorry, will be having it done by a trusted independant garage for a reasonable £150... and that's the next two services free... Oh dear me, Lexus...

Fraid it IS mate - new plugs and cam belt every 63K

My 63K service cost around £600. It's obviously your call, but I wouoldn;t let an independent do a cam belt on my car - I'd be suprised if one could get the technical data required to set it up properly.

Hi

Just bought a 97 GS300 Sport, 2 owners, though the first was the dealer pre-registering it. The owner used the local lexus dealers, while in warranty but then moved to Specialist Motor Repairs, 14 Wakefield Road, Grange moor. 01924 848340.

Wondered if you had come across them as you are also in Yorkshire?

Its no big deal changing the cam belt on the six cylinder models. Any reputable garage should be able to sort that for you. I've just done my own along with the plugs. Don't know if they needed doin but it gives me piece of mind cos if it snapped it would cost a lot more to put right than the dealer charges just to change it. Having said that, I replaced a snapped one on a supra a few years ago and it didn't do any engine damage. :)

The price I got from Lexus Chester was £700, this included all fluids changed, filters & plugs. Apparently the radiator is removed for the cam belt change, two hours for that and another hour for the plugs.

The information is available in the Autodata technical handbook covering IS200- LS400, may cost about £200 for the book, but you can amaze your mates with facts and figures on any motor.

I dunno why the dealers make a big song and dance about removing a radiator. I'd understand if the condenser had to come out but a rads no big deal. I wanna know how they arrive at their prices and the times. Most difficult thing on a cam belt change is cracking the crank pulley nut free. :P

I had my series one GS 300 63,000 mile service done in march 2000 at Lexus Birmingham.

This included the cambelt, sparkplugs, oil (Mobile one) and all the filter's etc

Cost £494.30 including the vat

Sounds like some dealers are taking the ****

I think my comment was in response to what someone else had posted.

I have used Lexus Octogon in Bracknell and they're ok. Nothing startling though. My car has been in and out of there because the motor on the drivers door window seems dodgy - after a while it hits the top of the door and bounces down again.

hmmmm, i get that sometimes aswell..........normally only when its warm/hot outside

can i see another quirky trend with these cars starting :shifty:

How much ???? :o

I've just had mine done and although it included front pads it was over £700 after my Gold discount :crybaby:

What amazed me was the labour rate of £69 /hr. :o :o :o OK so I have no problem with the quality of the work they've done but they must have some massive overheads or they're making big time profits !

Come on Lexus I didn't pay that much when I had my Aston Martin serviced.

Having just moaned about this I have to admit that I wouldn't have anybody other than a main dealer do it purely for the Full Lexus history thing. It might help marginally when it comes to resale value (or just make it easier to sell privately to a punter who relies on this sort of thing when making a decision)

I would also add that I don't believe for one minute that a good independant garage is in any way less competent at working on my cars than the main dealer. In fact I've had major problems in the past with the quality of main dealers (not Lexus) servicing my cars. It all boils down to who they have working in their garage - they are either good mechanics with good working practices or they are grease monkey apprentices without experience or supervision. I do not intend to tar all apprentices with the same brush - I know there are some excellent ones out there.

Looks like I'll have to consider making a trip to Brimingham if I want to make some savings that exceed those that even Gold membership can offer !
