We are a bit concerned about the CVT as it's not something we have experienced before and some reviews are saying there is a delay when you accelerate.  Is this a real problem?

A lot of the 'delay' might just be typical combustion engine stuff though. The engine still has to rev up to put the power down and as the engine is likely sitting at a low RPM due to the nature of CVTs, it'll need to traverse the rev range before it gets to peak power. Whereas a traditional auto or a manual, it'll drop a gear or two and drop it right in the power band.

I find the biggest issue is that if you gun it and come off the throttle very quickly. (I.E you've misjudged pulling out on a roundabout but there's also a car ahead), there's a delay in response because it's still being driven at those higher revs and you don't have any engine braking to help drop those revs. That might be a quirk of automatics in general though rather than just a ECVT thing

Judging by your profile, you already made a choice... But the answer could be useful to someone else who comes across this.

Top keep my post relevant to the topic:

I believe it was via Google, searching for common issues with the IS... I think it's safe to say how my research panned out.
